Mads talked about this, about how he had to rein it in a little because Hannibal can't be his true self yet. He hasn't been caught yet so the monster he is must be hidden well below then surface with only undercurrents of his true nature showing through (e.g. showing no empathy at the death of the mother and near death of the daughter. I wonder if that's why he held her hand at the end. Play acting as a nice guy)

This show was too good for NBC. I almost can't believe it.

No way it lasts. I say NBC cancels it after 4 episodes.

Prefer Norton's version of Will. This Will seems like a puss and has gone full rainman. However, I agree with the OP on Laurence's Crawford, enjoy him the most so far and think Lector will keep getting better. Think they got the right actor for thr role.

Agree with the Will comment. But they have also changed his character to where he is not married or even close to it. Like Hannibal, I think his character will evolve as well.

If NBC cancels it, I would blame the viewers as there is no way a show that is this good gets cancelled unless there are no viewers.

It didn't have great ratings, but it definitely wasn't poor, either.

Have it DVR'd actually excited to watch it. If NBC actually lets the positive word of mouth build instead of being reactionary idiots mabye it can grow.

William Petersen's Will Graham the best by far.

I thought it was pretty good. A couple of things I noted:

-the storyline moved really fast. I was under the impression that Graham and Lecter worked together on the Hobbs case for a while and not just one day.
-the plot is intriguing. I wanted a movie pre-Red Dragon; what led up to Hannibal's capture. So I suppose a TV show detailing it will be okay.
-the casting is awkward. Very awkward. Fishburne as Crawford, Lounds is a woman, ect. Lecter is probably what he was intended to be in the novels, but he lacks that Hannibal charm that Hopkins is brilliant at achieving.
-I did have to turn on Closed Captioning because I couldn't understand Lecter

Overall, it has promise as a series. You just never know with NBC. I thought Awake was a pretty good show and it got the plug pulled year one. And there are some truly terrible shows still running.

ETA: On a positive note. I love the casting of Graham. I thought Norton did a very poor job in Red Dragon

So I guess they changed the time period that this takes place in? Lecter's suit at one point seemed a bit retro, but they were using cell phones.

i thought all of lecter's clothing looked retro, which kind of threw me off as well.

They've definitely made the characters contemporary. Will is a lot more emo and damaged than before, in my opinion. But that's a sign of the times, I think. I'd rather Will Peterson as well. Manhunter...yeah.

yeah, i'm thinking maybe the retro clothing is a subtle way to show hannibal as "different"...as for graham, i agree with you about petersen, as far as the movies go, but i'm pretty happy with where i think they're taking the character...i always felt that the character seemed truly appalled by his ability to understand horrendous people, and i think that aspect may really be emphasized in this series.

Just watched. That was pretty haunting for cable tv.

Two of my favorite movies of all time, Silence of the Lambs and Psycho, have related shows right now and I'm loving it. This is the first time in a long time I've watched shows while they are actually airing.

oh, and in the novel "red dragon", graham spends a month in a psychiatric hospital following the case that was depicted in this first episode.
