It’s ego driven. They want to re-tell the story in their image, instead of focusing on the actual story. They can’t create original and dynamic content, so they take established content and add their twist to it.

it's a very female approach.
it's like the old story about Lego and how they finally were able to break into the girls toy market. they figured out that when boys play, they want to make themselves be whatever character they are playing, i.e. they pretend they are Batman or whatever. girls want to make whatever they are playing become them, i.e. they want to make Barbie dress like they want to dress and live the life they want to live.
you see it time and again with these movies based on existing IPs. they want to take them IP and make it whatever they are or whatever they believe in. you can take it to the bank that there are always females making the decisions or persuading others to make the decisions on things like this.

Just watch this 2012 movie instead. It’s the best live action Halo we will ever get. It starts a little slow but the payoff is worth it. The full movie is below and you can also stream it on Peacock.

For Hollywood writers, adding in the gay/trans/whatever is a virtue signal to the rest of their echo-chambered ilk (even if it's just so they can continue to get work). Changing the original work is ego as they really think their take on it is better than what millions of people love. It's also a wild shot-in-the-dark as another aspect of their doing it is in the vain hope that the changes somehow work and it makes them the darling of the writing world.
Thus far it doesn't seem to have ever worked yet they keep doing it and hoping.

No....not until the 2nd season but even then its still a total waste of time if you are a fan of the game series. If they wanted to do an original story within the known Halo universe like exploring some of the back story of the Spartan program or some other team that could ve been cool. Instead they made a infinitely worse and less coherent narrative of the games' plot.

I dont really recall much gayness or wokeness, but I not as sensitive to "wokeness" or changes in a characters race etc... as some. I do recall a bunch of really terrible changes to major plot points of the games that just made the whole show seem like a slap to the face to anyone that grew up loving the game series.

The weird way studios pander to demos that are the polar opposite of the audience they NEED to keep shows going will be studied one day..
Let's make Star Wars, Marvel, Halo, etc into something the core audience detests (or at the very least uninterested in).
That is somehow seen as a winning formula, despite the lack of W's.

This exact discussion was taking place today on a Film Threat stream. in summary, the lack of self awareness by studios and those in charge of making decisions is mind boggling. They insist on doubling, tripling down on absolutely terrible pathways for their IP's. From Doctor Who, Star Wars, to The Witcher and James Bond, there's hardly anywhere in fandom that hasn't been impacted. They're ignoring actual fans and trying to chase after this mythical 'modern audience'. These folks insist on lecturing to the audience, instead of just giving them what they want. What's been successful for literally decades. They think they know better than the fans, than the original source material, and nothing seems to deter Hollywood from face planting itself into the concrete floor.
