I’m going to have to disagree here. Like you said they’re not following the lore, but that includes MC. I’m not saying you can’t like it, you definitely can. Just that Chief isn’t really Chief in this. It’s their take on him.

The only things they got right about him are that he shoots guns at aliens and wears armor.
Other than that, everything is wrong. His personality and voice aren’t close and he’s tan with hair and a beard instead of being pale, bald, and weathered. They couldn’t even get basic things right like his HUD being blue

Wasn't bad but their agenda felt more important than the story. Just another hijacking of something good to fit their own ideals.

I've played the games as long as anyone (drop date for Halo Combat Evolved to last night playing some Infinite) but never read the books and never really cared about the lore, just what I was shooting at the time. I could absolutely not care less about canon.
I enjoyed the first episode and like that I don't know where it is going and like it even more that I don't know where it "should" be going. As long as it is a fun ride I will stay on.

Just finished the first episode. My bigger issue is he looked like 40 year old man, but a 16 year old boy with a genetically modified body.
I was fine with Keys being black. I was more disappointed with his figure. I am a light gamer, heavy book need when it comes to Halo. I don't recall him in the games, but from the books I read him as a much more average science nerd type guy, not a hulking, imposing figure. Also, where was his pipe?
I'm still trying to emotionally unpack the episode. I have read all of the books covering all the eras at least 5 or 6 times so I'm heavily vested in the lore. I think I'm OK with this reimagining of the store, but they really could have done a better job getting the objects better: John-117 being a great example.
While I really would have preferred they just bring the books to life, I'm excited to see where it goes. It's going to take me a few days to unpack episode one. Seeing John-117's behavior was startling to say the least.
At the very least I'm loving Big Maggie. I wonder if we will see Osman at all in the very early stages of her being pulled into ONI command.

I was a senior in HS and two of my friends waited in line at WalMart to get the first two Xboxes in our small town. They both called in sick to school.
During athletics we convinced our coach to let us do a cotton field run for off season (we grew up in west Texas, so we legitimately ran through the cotton fields.) and we all just ran to on of their houses and took 30 minute cycles of playing. None of us had cell phones back then so we just showed back up to the school a few hours later and got our arse chewed by the coach and parents.
Simpler times.

Yeah I don’t get why they didn’t do that. Unlike other games that have had live adaptations, this one has had numerous books. Doing a straight book adaptation wouldn’t have been as hard

Troll post! you cant come hear and say you've basically played the game since inception and say you have zero idea of the overall story and lore. If you played only PvP this could be true, but if you played the campaigns you are trolling.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Although I was shocked to see the dude who played Padan Fain in WoT also had a role in another failed adaptation in the same 6 months. The second he came on screen, I had some visceral reaction because it reminded me of how crappy WoT was.
ETA: if you’re watching this with teenagers, there is a scene of nudity in there. Everything else about the episode was completely G Rated with 0 violence, profanity, at all.
