Had to stop watching Outer Range

Shot WAY too dark. I hate when these supposed artsy ideas try to be different and cool, when in reality it’s just annoying as hell. Can’t see a fricking thing on the screen.

Maybe adjust your contrast on your TV set?
I didn't have a problem, and my TV is ancient. The night scenes were a call back to the Battle of Winterfell, but I think that was meant to be like that. Creates 'suspense', 'tone' or something.
I had bigger issues than the lighting.
seriously, how did that warrant six down votes?

I chose to stop watching because it was a bad show. I didn’t have a problem seeing it though.

I feel the same way about the new season of Better Call Saul. The season has been great overall but not only is it shot with really dark filters, or darkened in post, but nobody ever turns on a damn light.
I rewatched the first 5 seasons of Saul and it wasn't nearly as dark.

I’m with you. Exact reason I stopped watching

I was open to reading any number of criticisms about the show when I opened this thread, but the picture being too dark certainly wasn’t one of them.

Another show that has this issue: Ozark. I don’t know if the characters stood in the sunlight the whole series.

My guess is directors shoot dark because they think it makes things more serious. It's the illumination version of whisper talking. Maybe it works for short periods but having everything so dark or making everyone talk in a whisper gets old after a while.
Man in the High Castle was the worst with whisper talking. Everybody sounded like Batman.

Looks perfectly fine on an OLED.

It's fine on my OLED, show is more meh than the picture quality.

I had zero problems with it.

You should try shining girls next. It's even worse.

I finished it out, but damn I thought it was just me. I couldnt see shite the first half but it did seem to get better as the show went on.

It was dark, but it wasn’t that bad. More than that, I hated how the music would be so loud and the dialog would be so quite. And that it didn’t have an ending. An ending would have been nice.

Sometimes it’s visual relief to watch a top-notch epic from the 50s and 60s when lighting did just that, lit the scene.
Rich color production by today’s high end TVs are often wasted in a lot of modern movie making.
