My experience is similar to yours. I grew up in NOLA East and was 6 when SW came out. We went to the drive-in and I fell asleep on top of my dads car. During recess we would play “Star Wars”, but I hadn’t seen the whole movie. My dad brought me back to the drive-in and I watched the whole thing finally. I was a SW fanatic afterwards.

Saw ESB at Lake Forest Plaza with friends. While waiting in line some older kids yelled that Vader is Luke’s dad and we all laughed and called bullshite. 3 hours later…

It’s definitely better than 2nd and 3rd film, but the OG prequel trilogy will always be the ultimate standard. Hayden Christenson is a national treasure that we must preserve

What?

The original movie was highly regarded as I mentioned above by the Oscar nominations. The OT was a cultural phenomenon. The prequels were terrible outside of maybe ROTS. TPM has been retconned to not be that bad because the sequel trilogy is an abomination to all things living and dead.

“Maybe” isn’t the correct term, Mr. DrizzTiger. Revenge of the sith “is” the best film in the entire saga. There’s no “maybe” when it comes to discussing whether or not ROTS is the best film in the prequel trilogy.

Enjoy that thought.

I respectfully disagree.

ESB is the best "film", but OG "Star Wars" (ANH) is my favorite. ROTJ and ROTS have good enough stuff.

Can’t really remember but was 8 and old enough to see it in the theater and it having its effect. Something I do remember is how I equated the 20th Century Fox intro with all things Star Wars. Was weird after that seeing it and it wasn’t any of the trilogy until I was old enough to understand what it was.

Same.

I was so young and naive, I thought the 20th Century Fox trumpet intro was Star Wars. Such a fun time looking back.

I was in high school when the first Star Wars came out. Some kids were talking about it, they didn't really get the full meaning behind it.

I saw it in the theater, it was great, but aggravating that people considered it something totally new. Even at 16 I knew that it was a take on movie serials and that there were hundreds of Sci-Fi stories that were as good, if not better. I mean, the princess in peril, the desert planet, the religion vs science stuff... that was all out of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

My second viewing was at a drive-in theater, which was a totally different experience. Hearing the soundtrack and sound-effects out of a tiny speaker on my car window gave it a real movie serial feel.

It was a huge deal. As big as you might have heard. There were Star Wars songs on the radio and mentions about it everywhere. As big as you can imagine without there being toys available.

My brother took me we went to the movie theater at Lakeside Shopping Center. I was blown away I had no idea what I was going to see and have been a huge fan since. I remember buying the trading cards with stickers and put them all over the door to my room and got in trouble for that.

Saw the film at Lakeside in Metairie. I remember thinking the howling Wookie was weirdest of characters and the special effects were novel, with the attack on the Death Star at the end making me feel like I was driving my car a hundred miles an hour after leaving the theater. I was 24 and had a doctorate degree. My date was a gorgeous tall, blonde and built sixteen-year-old high school sophomore Jayne Mansfield lookalike. Times were just different then. The current social order had not yet been established in the galaxy.

I saw it at one of the theaters in Monroe. I didn't see it in 1977. I saw it during the re-release in 1978. When it came out, I was a senior in high school. I thought it was a kid's movie. I decided to go see it after it became such a big deal.

This is wildly false.
