Dude, TS3 is probably the best animated movie of all time.
But I'm 38 years old and I never could bring myself to throw this guy away.

Yes, that's the Stormtroopers mug.

Also, I'll reiterate, if Akira loses to Tangled, everyone should ban themselves. Akira is not only a marvel of animation, it greatly influenced wider filmmaking as a whole. I honestly dont like anime generally. But Akira is a masterpiece

Akira just weirded me out. I appreciate Akira, but I didn’t really like it.

I'm confused. You are upset over PM and yet don't like Akira?
Yet I always hear it's the anime for people who don't like them.

Mononoke is very accessible to Western audiences. Akira is one of the weirder movies I've ever seen. I either love anime or hate it, and Akira might be the only one in the middle. It's extremely Japanese, while Princess Mononoke doesn't necessarily have to take place in Japan, just a pre-industrialized society.

This is just for me, these might not be why everyone else would think so. That be said...

I was essentially Andy. Andy was 8 in the first Toy Story and I was 9 at the time. Fortunately for Andy, he aged a little slower than me by the time the other movies were out.

One main reason I would say it's better, is just bc there are SO many likeable characters. Id argue that no movie has pulled of the feat of having that many great characters. And they dont just get a line or two to make you like them. In TS 3, almost every one of the "side" characters get their moment to shine. American Tale, not so much, outside of Fievel, there's not many people you care about all that much. With TS 3, you could take maybe the 7th or 8th most interesting toy, say Slink, and if something happened to Slink, you would be devastated.

Part 3 also had some darker parts. Which was nice since its audience had grown up and could take some non light hearted stuff. Lotso was an amazing villain. AAT did have a couple good villains, but not on the level of Lotso. It was a nice surprise to see him end up being the bad guy, when you were rooting for him at one point.

Also, and possibly most important/impressive, was the ending to TS3. I dont think you could have taken 100 writers and directors and they all sit down and come up with an ending to the trilogy and come up with a better ending than what this had. It was perfect, and extremely touching (thats one reason I was little upset when I found out they were making pt. 4, bc you couldnt have ended it any better). I think that was the first time I cried in front of my wife

There were some genuinely strong life lessons as well. A lot of kids movies have that but not that can effect adults like these can. 1) You often times cant appreciate something until its gone and 2) sometimes its best to just let things go. Thats just the quick explanation obviously but those are two that stood out just from ANDYs perspective. The toys give you quite a bit more.

The Grinch as an 11seed and Batman as a 9seed are value bets as bracket busters.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is actually one of the highest rated on imdb out of the 64. That was surprising.

I haven't done any counting yet so it might not even make it out of the 1st round but I'm hoping Mulan at the 9 seed makes a run. Looking at some of my favorites, they are going to have a tuff time getting past the 2nd round.

So you learned nothing from the tournament format last time?

And where did you get the nominees, the matchups that will ensure early elimination for some and undeserved advancement for others?

I look for the equivalent of Beckinsale vs. Kunis in the finals of this one.

What was I supposed to have learned?

There was a whole nomination thread where you could nominate up to 30 movies. 125 movies ended up being nominated.

I didn't set them up

People not voting for them more set them up. It barely made it in.

If I would have set the rankings, the seeds would be completely different.

Dont really know why I'm getting all the blame

Some serious recency bias. In 5 years, no one will even remember Moana. But they’ll still be running the Grinch at Christmastime in 50 years.
