Theres no way you could think ratatouille is a top 2-3 Pixar movie. Just no way.

That is definitely the most overrated Pixar film and just isn't that good in general. And I love pretty much everything they do.

Ratatouille is mid tier Pixar, but it is superior to the Fox and the Hound. It’s definitely the most overrated Disney film by this board. It’s just ok.

They're all Disney animation studios. I didn't put in the Disney Australia straight to DVD movies

They’re not under the same banner. The Goofy Movie was not held to the same standards and executives as the Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. Sure Disney owns them both, but they don’t put them under the same banner. It is apples to oranges.

Not everyone wants the same elitist bullshite you’re spewing out of their animated films. Some of us like to be reminded of the iconic characters from our childhood cause it’s ANIMATED. I know very few grown ups who watch cartoons regularly outside of the comedy ones they follow or the occasional anime fans. The stories are often made for kids with adult undertones, yet you’re saying we MUST review them like we’re voting for the Oscars.

By the way, no All Dogs Go To Heaven that Ive seen mentioned...damnit I forgot that one.

It’s not elitist. It’s like someone saying “Reign of Fire” is better than “Pan’s Labyrinth” if we were doing a fantasy tournament. And it’s not because people have seen Pan’s Labyrinth, it’s just they’ve seen Reign of Fire and that’s all that matters. Sorry, one is not that good, and the other is an objective masterpiece.

If Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke don’t make it past the first round against that competition, this tournament is a joke. Might as well have a war movie tournament where 300 beats Apocalypse Now in the first round. They are just on totally different levels that anyone with a partially functioning brain can recognize the difference. Jesus Christ.

This is where the while difference of opinions thing comes in.

In no way do I find Ratatouille to be Superior to the Fox and the Hound. In any way.

Ratatouille's two main characters are almost completely unlikable to me, one being a giant idiot. On the other hand, I absolutely love Tod and Copper.

And Ratatouille was so ridiculously over the top. Remy pulling ol boys hair inside his hat controlling his arm movements was just too much.

Friendship, obviously, is a big theme for both movies, and the Fox and the Hound pulls it off much better. One makes you cry, and one makes you want to punch a kid in the face, I'll take the one that makes me cry.

It has been a solid 15 years since I've seen the Fox and the Hound, and there is definitely nostalgia there, but nostalgia isn't the determining factor for me. Fox and the Hound is just a better movie.

Freaking "somewhere out there" one of the best non Disney songs in a cartoon, and its not getting out this round.

A lot of people don't dig anime. One thing I never ever understood is how come they never make them look Asian? Everyone has huge round eyes.

Akira is a masterpiece and I'll probably retry Mononoke. But it's a popularity contest. All these things are. This board at a time had Memento as the best movie ever. (First tournament I remember )

I can bring up memories and emotions thinking of Fox and the Hound.
Ratatouille was good, but I almost think Pixar should be a separate tournament.

I want to thank you for this post. This what I’m talking about when I’m asking people to defend a film. You’ve made a hell of a good argument here. I’ve slightly rethought my argument, but I still love the end a bit more to Ratatouille where the critic gives his review. I disagree with you still, but I have a bit more of an optimistic view towards that film.

But with Princess Mononoke, no one has even tried for an argument, and it’s because they’ve never seen the movie and voted for its opposition solely because they saw it as a kid. Sorry, The Sword in the Stone is one of the less impressive Disney movies, while Princess Mononoke is one of the greatest movies ever made. I could show those two movies back to back to any poster here, and I doubt any of them would say The Sword in the Stone is better.

You could be right in that if Princess Mononoke loses out to the Sword in the Stone that it could be bc people are voting based on that they've only seen one.

I said this in the nomination round that I didn't have PM in my top 30 bc I remember literally nothing about it. Granted, I have seizures so that plays a role in the memory factor but I have seen The Sword in the Stone at the most twice (both times were before PM), and I remember more about it and actually what I enjoyed about. Theres something to be said for a movie being more memorable.

Also, theres also a chance that more people on here have seen Princess Mononoke than they have the Sword in the Stone. This board has seen a lot more movies from the 90s than they have the 60s. It got more votes in the nomination round.

Dang,i didnt realize it's one of your favorite movies of all time. Man just for your sake and wanting you to keep going on with the tournament and not thinking its BS, I want to change my vote.

But with that vote in particular, it was solely based on which was more memorable for me.

And that’s because some people just listed out the Sword in the Stone at random (with one exception who said it was the greatest ever which is clearly wrong) because they watched it when they were kids. The people that listed Princess Mononoke though know animation on at least a basically educated level. It’s like putting The Godfather or Lawrence of Arabia on your list for greatest films ever. There’s no way imjustafatkid has ever seen Princess Mononoke. I’m willing to bet the only Japanese animation he’s ever seen is Pokémon and Dragonball Z. And if I’m not mistaken on our most recent MWADS list, Princess Mononoke finished the third highest of any animated movie after WALL-E and The Lion King.

The list is moot if Princess Mononoke loses to a bottom feeder such as the Sword in the Stone, and even if Spirited Away loses to a decent film like the Brave Little Toaster. If I start putting it into war, comedy, or action film terms, people will realize how insulting it is for Mononoke to lose to one of Disney’s most forgettable films.

I think I put it as #4 a few years back in MWADS. It may be slightly lower than that now, but still in the top 10.

But thanks man

I removed two votes, I'm pretty sure I saw Spirited away but when I looked it up I didn't remember any of it.

The firefly movie I must have glanced over, so I took those two votes off

I like this discussion about these films because it highlights the fact that this is all very subjective. A film like The Brave Little Toaster is perfectly fine and is a quality film. There are probably many here who have seen it. The Sword in the Stone does have a big nostalgic appeal and many remember enjoying it as a child. There’s value in that as well, after all these films are largely made for children. However, I suspect that many on here have not seen Spirited Away or Princes Mononoke. I just can’t believe that so many who have seen all 4 films would choose The Sword in the Stone or The Brave Little Toaster over these masterpieces. They are just on a whole other level. A contest that would have both of them voted out in the initial round just doesn’t seem credible to me.
