Pacino is pretty infamous for basically morphing into a different human being during the 80s

I feel like this is a question that says more about us than the actual actors/actresses.

Doesn’t this boil down to “who do we still like after their good looks fade?”

Just saying that we ain’t gonna find a lotta of “Steve Buscemi’s” & “Jack Nicholson’s” in this thread despite their great careers at early and later stages of life

Brian Dennehey. Although his look never changed, his character roles (bad guy/good guy) always morphed as needed. RIP.

Called method acting and was one of the better ones back then.

Still had little to do with the OP

There certainly is some truth in that. When I made my OP, I was watching "The Untouchables" with Sean Connery in his Oscar winning role and this is the same guy that was the handsome, dashing 007 now killing it in middle age graying and bald.

We see a lot of actors/actress start out white hot and fizzle while some break through with age and their looks changing and i I found it an interesting topic.

I think some actors try to hold on to the fountain of youth too long and not accept taking roles age appropriate and end up screwing their looks up worse with cosmetic surgery like Jennifer Grey did with her career-killing nose job.

Granted, A lot of actors age and generally look the same just older and have great careers for decades like Harrison Ford and Kevin Bacon.

This isn’t the right example. Grey’s plastic surgery actually made her look better, just very different. So different that she was unrecognizable. She lost her star power, but she didn’t look worse.

I'm not sure any actor has had a longer run.

Good call. Kurt Russell could be a very similar nominee.

What? The change in Al Pacino's look and delivery has been a popular topic for decades now, it has nothing to do with "method". His looks changed and he's had a great career later in life, it's damn near exactly what the OP is talking about

God almighty, are you actually trying to argue Al Pacino isn't method actor?Do you know what method acting is?

You couldn't have given two better examples than Michael Corleone and Tony Montana.

Little background on method acting

quote:

Al Pacino

No list of method actors would be complete without Al Pacino. In his late 70's, the thespian now expresses some regret about his devotion to the Method even though he won a Best Actor Oscar for Scent of a Woman. He describes the process as arduous and lonely as he stayed in character both on and off the set. He says, “ If I were to go back, I would tell myself, 'You don't have to do that all the time, Al. Just be yourself, and only when it's time to act, only then get into the role.”

But, without all the hard work and preparation that method acting demands, it's doubtful Pacino would have been as successful. It's doubtful he would have a career spanning over five decades. But his words do illustrate how method actors suffer for their art and for truth

He has become a characature of himself in his later career but certainly was the definition of Method acting in 70's and 80's

LMAO! Showing 2 pictures 10 years apart is an example of an actor whose "looks changed" and had a great career "later in life"

I'm not sure what cross you're carrying here but I honestly don't know what the hell you're talking about. I know what method acting is, and I still don't know what using method for a role has to do with developing a look and persona over the last 30 years that inspired a million impressions. Also for a film buff such as yourself I'm wondering why you seem to think The Godfather and The Devil's Advocate were 10 years apart

Sam Elliott. I have adored him from afar for many years!

Edit to add he has aged very well and is more handsome as he gets older and if he has had work done it is not excessive.

Diane Keaton looks like a totally different person in Godfather compared to her later roles.

I liked him in "Starman" playing the alien who becomes Scott Hayden by replicating his DNA.

I liked the 1976 King Kong remake with Jeff Bridges and a smokin' Jessica Lange. Most of the movie was filmed on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, one of the most beautiful places on this planet.

Is an actor disqualified if they look almost exactly the same after 40 years of greatness??

Of course he has a had a rough patch or two

The worst they’ve ever been able to make this freak was in 1989

And we all know why
