Am I missing something about the "Joker" in Gotham? I am almost certain I read interviews by the producers (when this things was in development) that they were going to tease a person each season that "could" be the Joker, but you really don't know.

Everyone here is calling him the Joker. Did I miss something?

EDIT: Quote from a producer: "I won’t tell you that’s the Joker, but I will tell you this is not a trick. This is not a game. This is the beginning of the Joker saga.”

For all we know the Joker could be the young guy who was leading the blind man around when he was first introduced.

This is what the exec. producer had to say

quote:

I can tell you this is a long game plan and a long story that we are telling here. What I can promise you is this is not a bait-and-switch. This is not someone who is just a character who is going to disappear. This is not a red herring. It's the beginning of the story of how the Joker came to be, how the Joker was created, where he came from, who he is. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that Cameron Monaghan is the Joker. He might be. But like I say, this is a story that begins about seven or eight years before the actual Joker arrives on the scene in his fully-fledged persona. As we're telling with all of these characters, the origin story of that villain begins Monday.

I'm digging this show by the way - really really good.

agree. he should appear out of thin air with no back story like in the nolan batman.
Bingo. Or The Killing Joke origin story for Joker, where he's a fairly regular guy who just has one reeeeeally bad day.

I'm not a huge stickler for canon to the comics in TV shows. I get you have to cut some corners to put things on the screen. But having child Joker just seems completely unnecessary and shoehorned in.

This sounds a lot like, "We're going to wait for fan reaction and then probably change our minds and drop the character."

How can anyone NOT think that was the joker? It's obvious too, that he is going to kill his father and steal that suit.

That's what I said as I was watching. Pretty obvious.

Cameron Monaghan absolutely KILLED IT tonight with that performance. How can any actor up that? If it turns out to be a headfake, then it would be a horrible mistake.

He's killed it two nights in a row. Don't know if you watch it, but his performance on Sunday's episode of Shameless was even better. Talented kid.

Bringing in Joker as a child was dumb. Pointless. Bad origin story for the J-Man.

Food for thought...but maybe they're not introducing the 'Joker' yet. He's just a psycho 'Jerome' right now.
Maybe, as long as that's it.

Now, if they keep having him on...then, yes. Stupid. Although, his performance was awesome. I personally wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

But aren't we going to give Jim enough credit to recognize this guy in 10 years when he goes full psycho?

Since it looks like they are introducing the Red Hood next week, I'm guessing at some point they will meet. It looks like that might use the Red Hood origin story of the Joker (which is personally my favorite Joker origin story since it ties to Jason Todd and the Under the Hood storyline)

I would think he would have to be tried first.

As for Red Hood, he was the Joker in the comics, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

The Fish character is a joke. I can't take it seriously. lol She's supposed to be a tough mob boss who grew up with Falcone. Gimmee a break!

but the Gallagher kid did a great job as the maniacal young joker. Crazy laugh and all.
