Dragons in this series don't have a set gender. They transfer from one to the other.

Speaking of the Hound and Beric, they've been trudging north for so damn long they should be in the Land of Always Winter by now. I'm ready to see the scene when Beric lights up his sword, maybe it's at Eastwatch.

To be fair, these books were written long before the SJW movement began.

Battle in last episode required more precision, dragons randomly blasting shite on the field could cut her Dothraki horde in half. I think the dragons are smart, but not THAT smart, and you'd need a rider to properly aim them.
Dany's aim sucks then as she also torched all the food.
The Lannisters abandoned Casterly Rock, taking their food and provisions with them. That means that this stuff is already packed up and ready to go. It would be a large amount, as it would have been enough to last Casterly Rock through the winter. In other words, a pretty good sized caravan's worth of foodstuff.
The Lannisters marched on Highgarden and defeated the Tyrells. They did this in order to gain control of the Reach's larger food supply.
Upon leaving, Jaime told Bronn and Tarly to expedite the further gathering of the Reach's foods. But although they need the food eventually for the coming winter, they needed the Tyrell gold immediately to pay off the Iron Bank.
When the Dothraki hit, they had just finished delivering all the gold to King's Landing. So the gold wasn't hit.
Dany scorched a bunch of wagons with food, around where the army was camped. I'm going to say that was the remainder of the Lannister provisions from Casterly Rock.
I'm guessing the majority of the food from the Reach is still being gathered and packed, or just underway. You don't need a full army to gather and transport this, just a couple squads of soldiers to enforce to the locals who is in charge now. There's no need to wait on things to get packed up either, as regardless of the outcome of the fight we saw, the Lannister army was always intended to be at King's Landing to fight the invading forces.
There's talk of stragglers outside the distance required to join a battle. Can't help but think that wagons would be at least at the rear of the men, possibly behind them. I figure there's a pretty long caravan of goods strung out along the road, untouched.

Meh- you guys know there's a Book Board if you really want to isolate yourselves.
There are 2 threads discussing episode 4. On thread is over 90 pages, the other might be at 5 now. Outside of leaks and stuff, there's really no spoilers out there anymore, that the book folk could do to the non-readers. All that can occur is that readers should have better background knowledge of the people and events now and soon to be in play.
Pretty sure we all want to talk about what we've seen so far.

90 pages of:
What did Tyrion say?
Who knocked Jamie off his horse?
Just how good is Arya at swordfighting?
Can Dany's army teleport?
Did the gold make it before getting torched?

another question- just how much of the Greyjoy fleet is still intact?
They said there was enough to bring the Dothraki from Dragonstone to the Mainland. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the majority of Dany's forces, right? I mean, Kal Drogo's group alone was originally considered enough to mount a serious bid to reclaim the throne, if they could cross the Narrow Sea. But Dany went back and killed the other Kals, so she should have an enormous group now, basically all of them.
That would suggest that despite Euron's wins, there's enough ships to retrieve the Dornish armies, if wanted, and if she provided air cover.
I guess there's the concept that the remaining ships went back and forth several times to move the Dothraki, but it still sounds like it could be done without too much fuss. Surely Varys would know who's next in command, and who to approach. And moving the fleet from Dragonstone, to Sunspear, and back to either Dragonstone or better yet, the Stormlands. Heck, they could march overland from Dorne into the Reach.
WE know the series is wrapping up, and JON knows the WW are coming, but Dany should feel like she has plenty of time to marshal her forces. It doesn't make sense that she's letting delays totally remove entire armies out of her plan. In the amount of time it took the Lannisters to march from Casterly Rock, to Highgarden, to the area near King's Landing, the Dornish should have been able to make it to the Reach.

So in other words, you haven't read very many of the 90 pages.

Actually I have. Started the night of the episode and slowly waded through it.

Bad example! The British had the high ground and artillery and Napoleon was arrogant.
Field of Fire 2.0 was Calvary vs Infantry in the open field. There would be no contest.

quote:Right, but I really do think Varys might be a traitor. He surely isn't on Dany's side in the books, and him sending messages to KL so Euron could psychically find the Dornish ships and Jaime could know ahead of time (and set Euron up for) that they were attacking CR, would be consistent with him.
Surely Varys would know who's next in command, and who to approach
I don't know if they'll have Blackfyres in this show, but Varys has already said that he hates magic, and his character is a Blackfyre loyalist (theoretically) in the books.
Just don't try to get me banned if it turns out to be true.

Jaime's Worst Fear
I know Jaime and Bronn slip away, likely with Tyrion's help; but damn, I wish Jaime would be present when Dany gives her speech to the conquered troops. I'd love for him to throw this back at her, and ask why she's not to be considered the Mad Queen at this point.
I don't honestly think the actress is skilled enough to engage in that scene, and try to answer him. Or if she is, they've been greatly mis-using her

Now, now. A good chunk of those 90 pages were why the Lannisters didn't have scouts (at least not successful ones) and who Jon could or couldn't beat in a sword fight.
To be fair though, I think most of the back and forth on that stuff was among book readers.

At this point, T don't understand why he's still present, if not to try to salvage those alliances. Intel and communications, maybe? But she's not getting good intel at all, and even she should figure that out. And there has to be other sources of ravens.
Back to Dorne- Olenna had time to get from Dragonstone to Highgarden, before the Lannisters arrived. That took awhile. It wasn't very long after Euron took out Yara and the Sand Snakes, that they found out. Varys could have at least been sent to re-secure that alliance (whether or not he would have done so) at that point.
By the time the Lannisters are attacking Highgarden, he should be in Dorne, and by the time the Lannisters are able to bring the gold back to KL the Dornish could be on the march to the Reach. By the events of next episode they, in theory, could be joining with the Unsullied, who should have been tracing the same path the Lannisters took. Out of provisions? Ok a couple hard marches with tight belts to your known allies, and then when it seems like that was in vain, they could meet with the other known allies. At the very least, the Unsullied would have come upon yet another empty castle, this one with a countryside that has been ransacked by the Lannisters and are being drained of their resources. With any good Tyrell contacts (looking at Olenna and Varys for this) in the Unsullied group, they could be the backbone to a Tyrell uprising against the Lannisters.
Instead, I guess the Unsullied are just going to sit in Casterly Rock until they starve. WTF. That move still makes little to no strategic sense.

Yeah, she had way too much going for her in the show. I think they'll take care of this in the books by having the Reach, Dorne, and the Stormlands join with Aegon, and I think her fleet will be near depleted by the time she arrives in Westeros.
This is definitely a possibility for sure.
My only thoughts are how in the world Jon Snow is going to play into all of this. If he is truly a Targaryan--and everything seems to point towards this--is he the King? Will Dany relinquish all this "Bend the Knee" shite to Jon? Or, is Aegon the King? Who rules after the Night King's destruction? I assume one or two are going to die. Aegon is being kept secret like no other, but he may show up with the Golden Company is my speculation. Varys hid him well and has been plotting for a long time for his return it would seem.
