I'm gonna guess that the magical assasins that take people's faces and pray to death probably can train someone a little better/faster than the master at arms in Tarth

also guessing if you learn to dodge attacks blinded, then you're even better when you can see.

arya has been in the shite for years at this point. she went from crudely climbing on backs and stabbing people repeatedly in the neck to skilled assassin.

she had bow training from the best archer in westeros the guy from the brotherhood. sword training from syrio. training from the faceless men of braavos. she's learned from the hound about the truths of fighting, war and survival...all the while having had to actually make it in a dangerous environment for years mostly on her own.

Well, I am assuming that all of season 8 will be in heavy snow conditions
Yeah but the filming of S7 was pushed back to "film in wintery conditions" even though that hasn't been apparent in the episodes yet. Although it is a little wintery in the few scenes shown in the Riverlands I guess. Nothing that couldn't be achieved with snow machines.

Doesn't mean we won't by the time whatever happened to the throne room happens.

Did anyone else pickup on the line about Arya and Jon that Sansa said?

"Jon was so happy to see me, his heart will probably stop when he sees you"

GoT has been all about foreshadowing. They wouldn't have nonchalantly used those words unless it meant something.

It was probably a nod to the audience for us to laugh at.

I doubt it has any foreshadowing.

Also, everyone knows that Arya and Jon were the closest of all the stark children.

I know, but that just leaves it as a callback to Jon's resurrection and that seems weirdly out of place.

Royce DGAF about LF. In fact he would prefer it if LF caught a bad case of mortality. Sweet Robin is the one you should worry about.

Robin will not be a threat to anyone. He is a mindless, spineless boy who no one (hidden away in the Vale) and knows nothing (doesn't have a clue to how the real [ Westeros] world works).

perhaps what Varys is speaking of in the preview

Or he could be referring to her torching the food and supplies that are desperately needed when it wasn't necessary. Politically, "the dragon queen burned all of the food" doesn't play very well.

I did find that interesting especially considering how at the beginning of the episode she was complaining about the Lannisters taking all the food out of the reach.

was basically called an idiot because surely I'd seen lakes where it goes from shallow to a deep drop off instantly.

yep, except that wasnt a lake

it was a "river" or a creek I guess. It was fairly narrow, all things considered, and the water wasnt really moving that fast over fairly flat terrain. Experience tell you that's not a very deep cut, and probably no more than 10' deep at most.

Jamies fall looked more like a sci-fi dream sequence than a plunge into death's darkness

whatever, I'm sure they're both alive and ready for another "bend the knee" episode next week

Rapiers beat broadswords when it comes to 1 on 1 combat. We're talking about a 2 ft length of fishing rod vs a 3 ft 2x4, and first good contact wins. You're not chopping anyone's head off with Needle, but you can skewer them and/or slice up their throat.

Nope.
In point of killing the opponent, yep-
Brienne was landing kill shots, but Arya showed her she was going down too. First exchange, Brienne would have chopped Arya from clavicle to sternum, but had her jugular sliced open. Both dead.

Second exchange of note, Arya stabs Brienne in the left hand moments before getting kicked. Arya disarmed, Brienne is a bit handicapped with her blade, might have to swing 1 handed afterwards depending on what injury.

Last exchange, Brienne decapitates Arya but Arya slices Brienne's throat open. Both dead.

It's silly to over-analyze this too much, but both weapons and styles have advantages over the other. Arya was familiar with Brienne's approach in terms of what she was doing, just not at how skilled she was; and Brienne had no idea what Arya was doing. Getting close with a broadsword negates speed and favors bulk, so Brienne wasn't keeping distance. That cost her 3 times. I'm certain she learned more from Arya, than Arya did from her, in that exchange.

The important question on Jaimie, after he has to jettison his golden hand and his armor is whether he can resurface (under his own power or rescued by Bronn) with Widow's Wail.

Gonna need all those Valyrian swords.

With the loyalty of his troops. Remember that his men, those who served under Royce their entire careers, were ready to kill Royce, when Littlefinger made it clear he was the one calling the shots.

I just meant that if LF dies (by some Stark or another), and Robin throws a fit, he could call his men back to the Vale.

I don't know what Royce would do in that situation, but it is probably a situation Sansa/Jon want to avoid

No Jamie or Bronn here though

i mean part of what Brienne/pod show is how much work, actual practice, it takes to get good at that stuff. it was also reference in season 1 when Renly and Loris were shaving Renly's chest hair off. Arya has lived far too solitarily to have any sort of real practice in fighting

it takes YEARS of intense, daily training to get to the level of a Brienne

Then what's the magic number of additional episodes showing Arya training to satisfy your standards? Would it have been more realistic next season? I mean Jesus, we've already watched her go through 6 seasons of some form of training. It's a show, not real life. Obviously Arya's character was written to eventually reach this point of skill, so they're not going to dumb her down or write additional seasons just to make it a little closer to reality. The show is wrapping up, time to show the characters nearing their maximum potential. It's not as if they showed her fighting Brienne in season 1 after one training session with Syrio. They put a significant amount of air time into showing her training, but it's not good enough I suppose..

That last one very much makes me think Jon did not bend any knees.
