Yes, but the speed at which they are doing it is uncharacteristically fast for the show
they have a lot to show. this isn't going to be resolved in one battle and an assassination.

there's no more building up to do...the whole show has been building to this point. once daeny arrives in westeros, it's on. I get it's not the same as other seasons that serviced the big picture while being a self contained story of sorts, but the climax never could be that. there are no more threads to introduce, no more new dynamics, etc. at least until some real shite goes down first.

I was so expecting that while the Lannisters were formed up to face the Dothraki, she was going to come in behind them and/or from the side scorching them down the line. Same stupidity when she flies right at the scorpion. Dany needs flying lessons.

The purpose of GoT is entertainment, not a heavy military technical strategy.

I never said I wasn't entertained. What's heavy strategy about a line from one of the Tarlys saying something along the lines of "our scouts/outriders haven't reported in yet, we should get a move on"? That at least implies strategy without showing it. Instead we get more sophomoric dick jokes and laughter concerning Dickon's name. That brought a lot to the episode.

Am I taking exception to it or expecting it? But just because I can accept dragons in a world of magic doesn't mean more mundane things don't or shouldn't exist, even if only mentioned in passing.

Flying parallel to the line and taking them out in large swaths would have made too much sense. And saved many Dothraki lives in the process. Much more Dany's style to take out a small section instead.

Of course, I think he and Dickon have both bought it and Sam will have to lead House Tarly

I think Dickon will survive and join Danys side. They have made him a sympathetic character and he will lead House Tarly

Sam will be a maester, he won't be leading his house

I made that point a few pages back, that Arya is unlikely to be able to put swordfight Brienne who outweighs her by 100+ lbs.

Sure she can. Similarly to when Oberyn fought the Mountain, Arya has a tremendous advantage when it come to speed and maneuverability. She's actually faster and more agile than Oberyn was.

The main reason Brienne lost her composure and booted Arya during that sparring session is because Arya was pressing the attack so quickly that she was hitting her from every angle and frustrating her by dodging every offensive move she made.

Think of it like this, you can put on your armor and swing your much bigger sword, but does that really help much when you're fighting what feels like a swarm of bees?

That scene was overblown for Jon. Jon was still very young and inexperience in war and sword fighting outside of training. Much like Arya learned from the Hound that there is no honor in fighting, he learned it in that battle.

Needless to say if Jon met Karl in fookin gun alley for a rematch, Jon would be having Karls body cut and burned quicker than you can say bastard

Don't get bogged down in mundane details like logical military thinking when watching a show or reading books about dragons. Who cares if it would be stupid for her to land in an active battle and dismount her dragon without armor or weapon or anything fighting skill to speak of...

Dragons....dragons....dragons.

It's about entertainment and not thinking at all.

Did randyll tarly die in the battle?

I don't think they showed it explicitly, but I could see them revealing next week that he ate it. It seems like they're emphasizing Dickon (haha) the last couple episodes for a reason - could be that he's now the warden of the South.

I figured he'd have a bigger role to play as well when they recast who they did (he played a major role on Black Sails).

Then I am truly impressed by your ability to watch a show and have no idea what happened on the show you just watched.

tl;dr Arya is fast

Except in most realistic circumstances a speed advantage is not actually that great. Again to use a comparison to something we actually see, you don't see 50-100 lb. mismatches in boxing because because the little guy is "faster." A punch or a sword moves faster than anyone realistically "dodge"

Also the comparisons to Oberyn are a bit ridiculous. He is a full grown man using a spear which gave him a reach advantage. Arya has much shorter arms and is using a tiny sword.

As to her "deflecting" the sword rather than blocking it, I have actually partied a blunt sword with a sword. It ain't a matter of speed as much as it is pure strength. Those those a fricking heavy and F=MA is based on Brienne swinging a bigass sword at her.

The scene is far from making me dislike the show, but there is a reason that large men tend to be the best fighters in Westeros.

If you've ever watched longer anime shows, you'll understand why filler is so terrible. Shows will catch up to the manga and make like 12 episodes of complete shite while the manga releases more content. Then they just go back to the manga. Fullmetal Alchemist decided to start over and just write a 2nd version of the TV show because the filler was so far off base.

Man, you are even too big of a nerd for a GOT thread.

oh the Arya masturbation last episode was absolutely terrible

making her a badass assassin? that works

making her one of the top 5 swordsmen in Westeros? laughable

the writers are just really focused on fan service and making the common fans happy right now

Because they're used to fighting similar foes. In that case sure it helps to be slightly bigger. But if you swing that bigass sword and miss, and then your opponent is breathing in your face with a 5" knife.....you still die....regardless of being bigger right???
