This......it would have to be close range for that thing to do any real damage. Much closer than the dragons need to be to burn a motherfricker.
Very lazy way to attempt to neutralize the most obvious advantage since those dragons were birthed in Season 1.
Fear needs to be induced into the whole kingdom and realize what they are facing. For Gawd's sake there are 3 freaking dragons to their zero. If I don't see some arse kicking in the most lethal way I will write this ending off as a joke.
I need to make this point one last time>>>>>3 freaking dragons. Not one, Not two, but three. The sheer fear they would put through every man on that battlefield of pansies fighting for Cersei would run as fast as the moment they heard their roar.
Shite quite possibly could become ridiculous as freak soon.

They have a way, they just have to either march, or send more ships.

They also have a way. I'm pretty sure that Dany's entire fleet hasn't been wiped out. She still has some ships at dragonstone and I assume some of Yara's shipped survived and will make their way back there.

I understand that, but since Dany would keep the dragons out of range once they're used, shouldn't they build like 100 or more of them to try and get all of them in one volley?
Look at it from Cersei's perspective, Dany most likely will win this because of the dragons, she loses without them. And if one of those arrows kills a dragon, fifty going into each one at one time is even better. So why not go for overkill? Especially if you get to use them one time and it could equal the odds tremendously. Hell, it would tip the scales in Cersei's favor if they killed all the dragons.
I would think the more you build, the easier it would be to spot. If there are hundreds of huge crossbows, she'll avoid that area like the plague.

If she can see those crossbows flying that high and that fast then she should take the falcon of Arryn as her new sigil because she will have the best eyes of anybody ever in the world.

Not if you have them camouflaged and covered. Then reveal them at the very last moment for devastating effect

How do we know they didn't build 100 of them?
Posted on 7/31/17 at 4:57 pm to TigerFanInSouthland
If she's high enough to not see a cluster of hundreds of large stationary crossbows, then she's high enough that they don't pose much of a threat.

Hold up just a sec.

I'd frakin love it if they had this awesome sneaky set up of 100's of crossbows and then they get the dragon just where they want it. They pull the lever. Through so much risk they actually got a clean shot. Right at the heart of Drogon...but the arrow just bounces off his now hardened scales and the whole plan turns out worthless. Then, it will be BBQ time!

I'm not saying they wouldn't build more than one. I was replying to people saying the Ballista would be useless because the dragons would easily evade it. They wouldn't know to evade it until after they got shot at.

The early books/seasons significantly overstate the chances of the Dothraki taking over all of Westeros.

Now, that shite just got relevant as you see in the preview for the next episode. Trust me, Dany and her dragons are about to make waste of Jamie and his army. A blood bath. It will strike fear and dred into all of the 7 kingdoms too.
I disagree. I think Jamie will turn on Cersei and join Jon/Dany in the War for the Dawn. Redemptive arc complete.

Very possible and plausible indeed.
As for this crossbow bs. People do realize how ridiculous of an arc this is, right? 100's?? And, who is manning these crossbows again? How many of them every took a shot at a dragon moving and diving through the air? Oh, and once they shoot they better get the right shot as that will be the ONLY chance you would get. Once they know where the arrows are coming from your stationary arse is dust. Also, I would bet my arse that a Dragon has vision better than a damn eagle eye: they will see you WAAAAYYY before you ever saw them. They will have to be on high ground too as shooting up against gravity is a bitch I hear. The whole plot line when they brought that stupid crossbow out had me saying to myself how stupid this is about to get.
Just ridiculous and overblown how arrogant Cersei portrayed this "secret" to the banker. I'd laughed her out of the building.

Do they though? Even Robert goes on to say that their only option would be to hole up in their keeps.
I mean, I already said that they were poorly suited for siege craft. (The story of the three thousand unsullied proves that). But no one has a shot at beating them in the open field. Not in Essos or Westeros.

Dorne resisted Targaryen conquest, in part, by killing a dragon with basically the same weapon Qyburn has had built
quote:
The Scorpion was a primitive Crossbow mounted on a stand. The weapon was operated by a system of springs with torsion (known as tormenta), which made it possible to achieve very great power and a high speed of ejection for the bolts.
quote:
Meraxes and Rhaenys Targaryen both met their end in the First Dornish War at Hellholt after an iron bolt from a scorpion went through Meraxes's eye. Her skull was later returned to Aegon by a peace delegation.[5] Along with eighteen other Targaryen dragon skulls Meraxes's skull used to hang on a wall in the Red Keep's throne room. After Robert's Rebellion, King Robert had Meraxes's skull removed and stored in a dank cellar along with the others.
At least one of those dragons is fricked. Wouldn't be much of a war in the south if she just decides to unleash them and runs unopposed

If the tyrells had that much gold to cover the crowns debt, how were they essentially a second place family for so long? They're hella incompetent

Still, that is like an ant shooting a wasp with a toothpick
I have to stop and remember this is for entertainment, because in the real world it makes zero sense what the freak soever.
If I had know that this was something in the books I'd stop watching a loonngg time ago.
Just saying.

Speaking of secrets, someone managed to capture what Varys whispered to Dany:
Explains why he was basically jogging when he entered the room.
