if no one knows about the marriage and there is no record of it then it didn't happen and he wouldn't be an heir.
ETA: also what BGB said.

I knew it was Edric's mother. I just couldn't remember her name.

The Targs are known to take multiple wives and to Father many Bastards.
House Martell (all of Dornes) is known to father many bastards.
Ellia Martell and Rhaegar Targ would not have thought the same way about Jon as some in this thread. Ellia was barren. Rhaegar wanted a 3rd child whom he thought fulfilled the prophecy.
The Targ rulers have been known to not pass rule down to the next male, choosing other younger siblings and even daughters. The analysis of Jon's claim to the throne at the time of his birth is all wet.
A Targ/Stark ruler would have united the kingdom like no Targ/Martell ruler could have. It is highly possible that Rhaegar named Jon his successor.

I'm sorry, but maybe as a book reader, I'm biased, but is the blowing of the Sept of Baelor not the best scene in the show? The scene was totally masterful.
That said, did any of us pick up on this? LINK
I mean I don't think any of us ever registered this scene, despite the commenters saying otherwise. Did anyone here see this coming?

Did I miss someone breaking down what Lyanna says to Ned? Read something where the writer acts like Jon's real name is Jaehaerys. Was always curious if he had a Targ name, but didn't hear Lyanna say that.

Are you asking if anyone thought they were talking about the green fire buried under KL by Aerys? MANY people discussed that after that scene. In fact it is thought that there is more in other places around KL and Cersei may eventually set that off as a final desperate act.

People think he was named Jaehaerys and Ned called him Jon in order to hide his Targ ancestry.

I remember personally mentioning it as the wildfire under the city after we saw Bran's vision and Tyrion also mentioning wildfire in one of his scenes. And having a lengthy discussion with others about it.

I figured Ned had named him Jon because that would make sense brig he fostered in the Vale. I just can't figure out where Jaehaerys came from. Any significance to that Targ name besides Jons great grandfather having it?

I think Jaehaerys for the most part were good kings in Targaryen reign. The first of his name had to clean up the mess that Maegor the Cruel left (cleanup after Ceresi on aisle KL anyone?). And they wanted to get away from the Aerys associations since he had gone mad.

Cersei blowing up KL was spoiled by set watchers so a lot of ppl knew it was coming, yeah.
Myself included. Idk why I spoil myself
It was known weeks ago somehow.

I just read Reddit article with the girls theory. Jaehaerys is a good Targ name and he was the one who first heard PtwP prophecy. Good catch on her part.

A big part of the theory is that they got married either due to love or her developing Stockholm syndrome.

I'm a fan of the Knight of the Laughing Tree theory, that it was Lyanna (who wept when Rhaegar played his music the night before) and that Rhaegar likely discovered (and fell in love) with her when he went to search for who the knight was.

Just rewatched the Jon Snow lineage reveal again, and I think it's legitimately my favorite scene in the series. The music, the timing, Ned/Lyanna/Bran's reactions... It's all just fricking perfect.

Finally getting around to reading this thread, and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
How hard is it for people to grasp that all of these events aren't happening at exactly the same time? Is it really necessary to comment that "omgersh littlefinger/varys/arya" travelled here or there in 1 scene.
No they didn't, some storylines are lengthened or shortened for the purposes of fricking television.
Just the same way Olenna in Dorne didn't hear about her whole family dying the second it happened, it's understood time had passed.

So if this does happen...who is it that causes the sword to burn?
Does he kill Sansa or Arya with it?

So just a random bunch of people out of the free cities are supposed to suddenly care for 3 people who just lost a war? And what gold would they use to buy these sell swords. Ummmm... Yep. Wild.
