Was the beetle convo foreshadowing? Was it in the book?

Not in the book.

I could tell Sansa had bird feathers on the shoulders of her dress, but what was the thing around her neck? Where are they going? Is she still betrothed to Robin?

Not sure, they are moving her storyline up quite a bit.

Whose garrison was that which Theon convinced to surrender?

As NO said, that was Moat Cailin, which was at that time being held by the ironborn, Theon's people.

Also, the pardon that Jorah received, wasn't that already to Jorah in a previous season?

Yes, but Dany didn't know about it until just now.

The Reeds are even south of Moat Cailyn, so the Reeds are fine.

I thought last hearth was in between Winterfell and the wall?

Quick question for a Hodor here. The pardon sent to Jorah was that the original pardon from Ned in season 1 and it just got there or was that the same pardon resent by Tywin in order to do exactly what happened and cause internal strife between Dany's two most experienced military men.

they must make a couple of copies of letters before raven mailing them out. Just in case the first letter never arrives?

Yeah, but the Reeds live at Greywater Watch. I'm talking about Jojen and Meera's father.

House Reed from HBO extra

Jojan and Meera's parents would have been in Greywater Watch. The castle, Moat Cailyn, last night was held by the Ironmen.

The Reed's didn't attack the Ironborn at first because they thought that Theon was still holding Jojan and Meera Reed at Winterfell as hostages. Prior to the Red Wedding, Robb's bannerman made plans to retake the fort. His forces had already cut the fort off from resupply.

You saw what the readers saw, in the book Barristan Selmy former commander of the King's Guard, he was present when all of the Varys/Jorah stuff was happening. He knew before he left King's Landing. Barristan told Daenerys when he got there.

I like what the show did, much better.

My bad. I was confusing the Reeds with the Umbers. Rickon and OSHA are with the Umbers correct?

Makes sense. Thought it was odd being a higher up he wouldn't have known what Jorahs mission was from jump.

So in the books, Barristan knew about Jorah spying before he left Kings Landing?

Yes.

On the show last season Jorah & Selmy while riding on horses, Jorah started asking Barristan how much of the small council's business he knew. He wanted to find out if Selmy knew he had spied.

Going by her reaction last night she might have killed him on the spot if she found out he had been a slaver.

I guess that would have made screen time for Dany even less interesting.

He was upfront about being a slaver, he had that conversation with her brother, Viserys, during the first season.
I believed he also had conversations about his life/wife with Dany.

She knew back in S1 that he was banished from Westeros for selling slaves--from what I remember in the books most of them were poachers. Not trying to justify his slaving but it's not as if he was collecting random people to sell into slavery; a lot of them were criminals.

Is it just an oversight from the direction of the show creators or an example of Cersei's shortsighted stupidity that she's smiling as the Mountain admits to what he did as he kills Oberyn? Yeah, she got the execution order she wanted....

But her beloved daughter is still in Dorne and they have to be royally pissed at losing two heirs to Lannister men. That has to factor into future events. Wouldn't be shocked if they declared war.

Or maybe I just wish they would...
