Are people getting butthurt about the Jon Snow speculation? I think pretty much everyone who watches the show has heard the Lyanna/Rhaegar theory before.

Personally I don't think people should be getting butthurt about it in the Middle Ground thread. It was mentioned in Book 1 and there's the whole Jon Ned conversation in Season 1 about promising to tell him who his mother was.
And book readers like myself can confirm that it's yet to be confirmed as to who his mother is. Maybe Fat Boy will reveal it in book 6.

What cause the situation had nothing to do with Jon Snow, if you want to know & have read the books it is in that thread. I asked poster to delete and they did. Seems like most of the problems occurred after it was deleted.

Blueboy likes the flame wars, just ignore him. He's tried before to create fighting in this thread among the readers and nonreaders over what amounts to nothing. I have been doing serious stuff all day and had to reorient myself to the ways of TD.
I'm not interested in flaming at all. I just think the thread has some major flaws that occasionally ruin people's viewing experience. That's all.

This thread has since it's inception had a warning that spoilers were possible, but it seems almost everyone but you thinks we've done a good job in containing things. Hell, outright spoilers have been posted numerous times in the nonreader thread in the guise of "guesses".
If you can't handle the risk of seeing the very minor things that have potentially been spoiled in this thread you can always stick to the nonreader thread instead of trying to bring drama to this thread. People come to this thread for reasonable discussion of the show and to have questions more safely answered.
We don't want the fighting here so please keep it in the other threads.

This thread is getting treacherous, I might avoid but I hope it hangs on and doesn't destroy itself.

If I see anything too bad get posted I will update the thread title with a warning with risk level. Though of course I can't monitor the thread at all times and have no ability to prevent some rouge a-hole from doing what a-holes do.
I want to avoid bothering the admins over this petty shite if at all possible, but if someone is obviously screwing with everyone just to amuse themselves I will take appropriate action. This action will remain proportional to the offense made. I mean, I'm not a Frey.

Lou Brown: Even you, Dorn.
So i don't know if this question(s) can be asked in here. it all happens before the events of GOT but i don't know if it just exacerbates the spoilery stuff that's been going on. strike it if it can't:
Question 1-lyanna (that's ned sister, right?) was betrothed to robert, correct?
Question 2-she was kidnapped at some point by rhaegar (sp?). of course depending on what family tells the story (targ or baratheon) it seems like the account of rhaegar-lyanna is different. according to baratheon's she was kidnapped raped held against her will etc. the targ's paint the story as a love story.
i guess the question is whether the book explicitly states which of these accts are true. or presents both as POV and you're left to figure it out for yourself.
either way a baby can be born of love or rape (snow's parentage theory/promise me Ned) and i'm on board with that theory. just trying to find out if the book gave a definitive picture of that relationship.

Yes, in Season 1 ep 1, that is the crypt that Robert wanted to see when he got to Winterfell.

yes
also Meera Reed tells Bran a story in Storm of Swords about the Knight of the Laughing Tree. I don't believe it will be shown, but just in case I'm not going to link. It provides more insight into Lyanna, google it at your own risk.

I just don't get it. Yay, you read a fricking book
Why does even "mild" spoilers have to be in here? Can't this be a place where a Hodor like me can ask questions about WHAT WE'VE SEEN ON THE SHOW SO FAR and not have to learn about other things that may have happened or..? Middle ground should help people understand without having to read the books up until where we are at.
Ok, so now I have a question
Please tell me a little about Rhaegar. Was he heavily mentioned early on in the series? Which ep (if someone recalls) should I go back and watch? I don't want to google search as that will definitely spoil.
This thread is great for the most part though

Rhaegar is mentioned a lot more in the books than the show, although the show has mentioned him a good bit.
In the finale of this season, when Tywin and Tyrion are owning Joffrey, Joffrey says something along the lines of "My father won the real battle against Prince Rhaegar at the Trident, while you hid under Casterly Rock!"
Basically showing that Tywin didn't pick a side/ was a coward until the very end when he knew which side--Robert--would for sure win.

So did Robert and Ned win this war together or was this just a Robert thing? Was Robert (and Ned?) at war with Rhaegar because of Ned's sister or because of land, throne, etc?
ETA: Oh and thanks

The catalyst why Ned and Robert went to war was because the mad king killed Neds father and brother and Rhaegar allegedly abducted Lyanna Stark. Neds sister and Roberts true love who Robert was arranged to marry.
Rhaegar would be Dany's oldest brother and heir to the throne if the Targaryens didn't lose in Robert's rebellion

Ok, now some of it sounds familiar and now makes sense. Didn't know that was Dany's brother.
I really need to go watch all 3 seasons again now. I keep wanting to do it and then get caught up on different shows. AD and House of Cards recently.

The Mad King killed Ned's dad and brother, and then said he wanted to kill Ned and Robert, who were both being fostered at the Eyrie by Jon Arryn at the time. Jon called his banners and that's the beginning of the rebellion. Robert had the best claim to the throne because his grandmother was a Targ.
Ned had no desire to be involved in King's Landing politics after the war and wanted to return to his home in Winterfell and be Warden of the North. That's partially why Robert chose Jon Arryn as his Hand.
Also, Robert was adamant that Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna, while others think she went willingly and were in love with each other.
Even Ned recalls that Lyanna knew about Robert's whoring ways and doubted that he'd remain faithful to her after marriage. He had a bastard daughter in the Vale during his betrothal but she's not in the show but is in book 1.
Based on what I've seen in the show and read thus far in the books, Robert was infatuated with Lyanna and somewhat delusional about how she could possibly want another man besides himself.
