I still haven't figured out how to copy image url's from my ipad, but my favorite was the death scene with the crazy music and the Roose Bolton deal with it.
Just hold your finger on the image and select copy, then paste it in the img box like you would a url.
So easy a Frey could do it.

Yea. I think a ton of non-readers were expecting something to go down at the wedding. I don't think many we're expecting THAT.
I was convinced Robb would get screwed, I never thought he would die.
They even gave the readers a few surprises. Robb's wife (different character in the book) wasn't even at the wedding, so didn't know she would die.
Also, Arya getting knocked out was much more dramatic in the book. As she is running for the gate at the Twins all it says is "His axe took her in the back of the head." (End chapter) I'm pretty sure everyone quickly looked through the book for another Arya chapter to see if she was alive. If they had ended the show that way there could have been riots.

We were warned pretty early and often that Walder Frey would get his revenge for Robb breaking his oath. A lot of things pointed to something happening to him here and I even had some shite spoiled for me by inadvertently reading comments on other sites (before hitting the Back button as quickly as possible), but wouldn't have predicted it to go down like that.
I thought an alliance between Bolton and Lannister was obviously in development.
However, I would have expected something more along the lines of a military ambush by Lannister men outside the Twins. Lord Frey sitting there smiling and sipping his wine as he watched the slaughter was a stark (no pun intended) visual.

I want to start reading the books but don't want to pass up where the show ends. Do I read the first three books or stop at the second? I thought I remember reading the third book was gonna be two seasons of tv.

I think the costuming and his extended bachelorhood allow that mistake, but he's the Tully house leader since the death of Cat's father, Hoster.

Edmure Tully became the Lord of Riverrun when Hoster died, not Ser Brynden (Blackfish)

The problem is that due to character continuity, they've even thrown in a storyline from book 5.
I would recommend you to read books 1, 2, and half of 3 if you are worried about passing the show up. I've been reading too and knew spoilers beforehand. The books really help at clarifying things that the show briefly mentions and expands character development. Once season 3 ends I'm going to rewatch all 3 seasons upon completion of book 3. Then I'm going to have 4 and 5 completed by next summer for sure.

I really want to start reading cause the show is so good but don't want to ruin the show. I don't know if I want to wait 5-6 more years to find out what happens though. If grrm would finish the series I would definitely read all the books now.

I would say the absolute earliest date the final book will be published is 2020. And that is if there are only 7 books in the series, sometimes fantasy authors can't wrap everything up as quickly as they thought and add another book to the end.

No way fat boy lives that long. Fortunately, he has told HBO his vision for ending the story, so if he dies we can still get an ending through the show.

He should set up something where another author finishes the series with a final book based off of his notes on what is going to happen. The way Robert Jordan did with the Wheel of Time. I would be pretty upset if I was an avid and loyal reader of this series (which I am not) and had read the entire series multiple times over and not only does the tv show get the jump on finishing the series out but I don't even get a final book to bring some closure to all of the story lines that the TV does not have the time to touch.
BTW what is the deal with the authors croaking in the middle of their story.

To all those asking in the non reader thread, the song is called Rains of Castamere. Yes, the house is spelled Reyne, but it's a double meaning for the song. The house is Reyne, and the rains weep o'er their halls.

I would post how grim that sounds considering he is only 64 and living to 70 is so not a stretch, but then again you have watched the show so it does kind of make you grim in thought
now the first three books came out two years apart
game of thrones 1996
clash of kings 1998
storm of swords 2000
it wasn't until the fourth book that the time increased
feast of crows 2005
dance with dragons 2011
it has already been stated the next book is a quarter done and edited with another quarter rough draft and projected to be done some time next year
Martin has also stated that the show now brings him added pressure to finish the books because he doesn't want the show to surpass his writing
Take that for what you will but if it is still only two more books to finish 2017 could be a realistic date
combine that with the tv show
2014 Season four storm of swords part 2
2015 Season five feast of crows
2016 Season six dance with dragons
2017 Season seven winds of winter
2018 Season eight a dream of spring
2017 is a my bet to when the books will be finished

I am basing my opinion on previous fantasy series as well as his own history. The first few novels are easier to write because everything is fresh. It takes a lot more planning and editing when you have so many story lines / time frames to keep straight, age is also a factor as he probably simply doesn't have as much energy and time every day to devote to writing.
My earlier posts, i was under the impression he was in poor health or had a medical condition which is why i said he should have something lined up for when he passes for another author to complete the final book based on his notes. But if he doesn't have any pressing health concerns like Robert Jordan did then that would be a very macabre outlook indeed.
And especially the final book will take a long time if he tries to wrap up all the secondary story lines and bring some real closure to the series. I put the best case scenario at 2020 because of what I have seen from other fantasy authors.

Too bad he won't bequeath it to another author. I understand people's hesitation for not wanting to wait 5 years or so for the next book but come on, I've no regrets having read it as soon as I can, even with the wait there are plenty of other things to pass the time, like life, and some of the joy is in the anticipation for the next novel. Besides these books are definitely worth multiple reads. I'm on my 2nd pass through right now and I'm catching so many more things that I overlooked.

Read to the "red wedding" and you will be fine. Don't go any further until after next TV season.

Yeah, but "Lord" does not necessarily mean "Leader". The arrow scene demonstrated that.

FYI, there's a great thread going on the rant right now about all the reasons Jonathan Gray (OU pitcher caught using Adderall) is a douche.

I find if I start humming Reynes of Castamere over and over, each time with a slower tempo, I fall into a completely relaxed zen phase.
