This is the GoT ending we deserved. A Targaryen queen riding her dragon into Kings Landing, entering the Red Keep, and her man cutting down all remaining opposition on the way to the throne room without going full mad queen

Ok I might be back in. I actually much preferred this episode than Episode 1 for some reason

I know they’re gonna use her beheading Otto as a means of Alicent going against Rhaenyra again but like…come on…you honestly expected her to pardon every single person that betrayed Rhaenyra? Like she would spare you and maybe Halaena but Aegon? Aemond? Otto? Alicent had to know Rhaenyra was going to want them all dead

Thanks for making this, I was terrified of stepping into the other thread and getting hit with massive book spoilers.

Honestly, agreed on the character stakes. The spectacle and the dragons look incredible, but half the time I feel like they're rushing through the actual emotional buildup just to get to the next massive set piece. Still, a solid premiere to kick things off. Excited to see where this season goes!

Most satisfying part of the whole episode.

Otto Hightower was widely considered a villainous and self-serving character.

The Targaryen civil war was his fault. His ambition to put his bloodline on The Iron Throne knowing Viserys already had an heir in Rhaenyra.

He was a slimy piece of shite. He deserved worse.

But what of Alicent? or Aemond? This will now obviously put even more fuel on the firt.

aemon is so much cooler than every other Targaryen and it's not even close. For book readers, is this the case in the books as well or is it more of an HBO thing?

Best episode in 2 seasons for sure and possibly the best episode of the series. Well paced and the decisions made sense. Loved the call back to Daemon being leader of the gold cloaks. Aemond is still a little bitch but thats par for the course. I'm was a little shocked that we got a sad queen and not a mad queen but it fit the tone of the episode for sure. Overall, that was a GOT level quality of episode.

Also my favorite. People talk shite about Aemond while forgetting how bullied he was as a kid. He stood up for himself in the biggest way possible by taking the most powerful dragon available, after failing over and over with the weaker ones.

Then some little rat bastard cuts his eye out for it.

And still… he overcomes that to become a complete psycho that everybody is afraid of. Go Aemond! The best character on the show. Rhaenyra sucks.

Exactly. I’m not sure why Alicent looked surprised.

He is evil but he doesn't get the long game at all (which makes sense for a teenager).

1) she didn't know Otto was even in KL, let alone in the dungeons.

2) Killing Otto wasn't part of the deal.

I view Otto in the same regard as Thorne in GoT. I don’t need a redemption arc from every character. I like a motherfricker who is in it for the love of the game and stays an a-hole till the very end

He didn’t apologize. Just said get on with it. I was actually surprised Rhaenyra didn’t fight harder to keep him alive (but then later sentence him to the Night’s Watch.) Would have been a valuable bargaining chip and kept the Hightowers in check, leaving Aemond and Vhagar as the sole threats. But Daemon kind of forced her hand by bringing him into the throne room

I don’t know if this was done purposely, but the original poster was referring to Daemon, then when he was quoted the person left off the D, and then you quoted that person and also left off the D. Daemon was GRRM’s favorite character, not Aemond

What’s funny about Aemond is that he’s basically Daemon 2.0 but more chaotic. I think they’re doing a good job of showing the correlation between the two. Daemon was a prick to the Strongs but kept them alive. Aemond murdered them all. Daemon was chaotic but still always in control. He still had love for people around him despite some of his actions and even if he wanted to dice a mfer in half, he still played the game when he needed to.

Aemond doesn’t really give a shite about anyone and doesn’t play the game at all. Maybe he still has love for Alicent but it’s a little too late for her to be mothering. He would kill anyone. He has ties only to himself and Vhagar. It’s so funny that as much as Otto plotted against Daemon and hated his arse so much yet ended up with a grandson that has many of the same qualities but is somehow a lot worse.

So Daemon had a vision of Daenerys (when he was talking to Rhaenrya in bed)?

I forgot, did he have this vision when he was playing general contractor at Harrenhall last season?
