Also — since when was the Cloverfield monster a titan?

In addition to Mothra and Rodan, there were some new titans revealed: the Cloverfield crab one, a wooly mammoth looking one, and some others only mentioned by name (Scylla, Onix, Methuselah)

That’s false. Antarctica was basically a draw because Ghidorah retreated when Godzilla got at him. Mexico was definitely Godzilla getting the upper hand until the oxygen bomb.

The last fight was 50/50 and then Godzilla went super saiyan on his arse.

Is it a monster that resembles the Cloverfield monster? Or is this actually in the Cloverfield universe?

There was no clover field one. There was a spidery looking one and another Muto one.

I enjoyed it,

But this was the most ridiculous script I’ve seen in years. This movie is on Independence Day 2 lvl of nonsense. Nothing seriously detracted me from enjoying it but man...... this could have been so much better in so many ways.

Loved Mothera. She’s my girl. That’s the only Godzilla movie I watched growing up.

Liked the music.

Also., the Chinese actress I’ve had a crush on since she was in crouching tiger hidden dragon

Given that we’re dabbling in a world with a giant lizard that feasts on nuclear power, a 3 headed dragon from space with Thor powers, and a massive bipedal gorilla, what exactly was ridiculous about the script other than the mother’s motivations? Actually it wasn’t even her motivations that were dumb it was the line of thought that got her from my child was killed by a kaiju to I want to be able to control the kaiju to hey let’s them wreck shite that was the problem.

Saw it. As others have reported, the monsters were great but everything else was very meh. The problem is there’s way too much of everything else. About 1/4 - 1/3 of the movie is badass monster fights. The other 3/4 - 2/3 is horrific plot, bad acting and lame jokes. Those going for the monsters (everybody) will enjoy what they get. You’ll just come away wishing there had been more of it.

Ok. I think I’m sold on wanting to pay to see this thing. Hope I don’t regret it.

I’m not seeing where this bad acting was. There’s no Oscar performances in here but it’s not network drama level bad acting here. Pretty much everyone is who they are here.

They probably could have used Charles Dance more, but he’s going to have more of a role to play down the road so i’m not too worried about that. The plot was pretty straightforward. Caught you up on what’s been going on since 2014, filled in some details on the ancient history of the kaiju without going on rambling expositions, and also set up the future of the story without laying the whole story out in front of you.

The story/plot did it’s job. If you went to this movie expecting some gran narrative full of deep character development and riveting engaging dialogue, then you’re a buffoon.

Also that’s such a standard, lazy, “I sniff my own farts” response for people with blockbusters. “Yeah it was pretty but the plot was dumb and they didn’t develop all the characters and I didn’t like all the dialogue”. Because 2 hour long action movies are known for their twists and turns plots, doing deep dives on every character, and using a bunch of long winded exposition.

Great television has made everyone expect 10-20 hours of programming a year to be copied into a 2 hour movie and it’s just not happening.

The “Given that we’re dabbling in a world with” mindset I wholeheartedly disagree with.

Like wtf, they have a machine that can control these creatures for crying out loud!

This line though optimized everything for me though. was a line “I hope to have kids one day” that was obviously written for a much younger man. The guy who said it is like 55-60. But they cast him and just didn’t bother changing the script.

This movie felt like it was directed by a Chinese person.

Oh, I loved Kong Skull island btw

I still say without Mothra & human assistance, Ghidorah had the upper hand

I saw it earlier tonight.

I’m as big a Godzilla fan as there is on this planet. Me and the Big G go back nearly 50 years.

Trust me when I say that this movie is the magnum opus of Godzilla movies. If you like Godzilla movies, go see it. Not into Godzilla? No one cares about you.

So much fun to see Mothra and Godzilla together again. And Ghidorah was fantastic. If only Anguirus would have made an appearance...

To those complaining about the non-monster parts of the movie... there’s not a single Godzilla movie out there where the non-monster parts weren’t lame or boring. There’s only ever been 20 minutes of destruction in each movie. This movie actually gives you more than usual. Go see it!

Just got and loved it. Yeah the plot was dumb and the characters were pretty meh but that's not what I came for.

Don't think I've seen this mentioned yet but there were some cool throwbacks to the OG series as well as hints to future movies

Dr Serizawa gives his life to save Godzilla which is very much like the orginal when the OG Serizawa gave his life to kill Godzilla

Oxygen Destroyer hype. Not only was this the thing that killed Godzilla originally but it also plays a part in creating Destroyah who I think will be the main villain in Godzilla vs Kong or Godzilla 3

They found another Mothra egg so hoping we get to see her more next time

Looks like the Mothra twins might exist in this universe maybe the one woman has a role to play

MECHA KING GHIDORA HYPE!!!!!!!

I'll just add that halfway through the movie my 10-year old said, "Shouldn't Monster Zero be King of the Monsters since he beat Godzilla?" That was his perspective.

The machine didn’t “control” the creatures. It communicated with them on their most basic animal instincts.

Humans have been researching ways to communicate with animals for decades. The characters in the movie were doing that before the kaiju appear, you think they would abandon that idea when these huge world destroying monsters appeared?

Was there any reference to Kong?

So what is the expectation for Godzilla vs Kong. Who wins?

I feel like they will have to fight but in the end will have to become bros. Anything else pisses off a rather large fanbase, no?

It’s treating all these Titian’s as the same species though.

Also, it treats them like robots,

That’s all a bunch of bullshite
