Spoilers
The American”commander” was so flat in his acting it was weird.
The fake cry of the little girl was annoying in the first movie. It returned, and I was not thrilled about.
Overall, I also thought it was good, but it did plod in parts, the fight at the end was indeed rushed, and the ending was a bit unrealistic despite it setting up another sequel.
Liked the take on Ghidorah and a subplot of revenge that was a driver for a character, but this one was not on par with Minus One for me.
I’ll probably see it again with my son, but for a movie that was rated R, I was really expecting a lot more gore than what we got. It was cool to see both kaiju really getting messed up, but aside from one Terminator Judgement Day-like scene, I felt like this was a PG-13 rating film.
It’ll do well, but it’s not going to be looked upon as an Empire Strikes Back of this trilogy.

I thought they did a good job of making Ghidorah feel extremely dangerous. Maybe it felt that way since a good portion wasn't KG v G, but vs the humans.
I was like holy shite at the scenes of him hunting the humans in the dog fight section. There were a few brutal deaths there and showing the nuclear blast melting people was also pretty intense

I really loved the first one but thought this one was underwhelming.
Unlike the first, it really doesn't feel like a special movie that gives something essential about the Japanese. It's more of just a monster movie with adequate but not moving characters. It somehow also feels more affected by modern Western culture than a traditional Japanese sensibility.
The first one was also just a better movie when it came to making you feel a sense of tension during the action sequences whereas I did look at the time a lot this time around.
It's okay good. I wouldn't consider it in the same hemisphere as the first movie

Oddly I think it’s only R rated in America.
Crying little girls may be more a thing in Japanese culture. Reminded me of Pacific Rim, where we saw young Mako (great performance, by the way) Regardless, I get the emotion but for my tastes it was a bit too much. Again, Japanese film, so allowances could be due to cultural differences.
The 2 new characters I think are due respect, the weather girl - I’ll call her and the older biologist who was on a mission & developed the 21st century version of the Oxygen Destroyer from the original.

I agree. I thought that older man was the most compelling human character to me

I just got home from the theater. I thought it was awesome, but it's definitely flawed and not Minus One.
Spoilers
I could shrug off the pacing issues if there was a bigger payoff, but the ultimate showdown between the Big G and Ghidorah just kind of...ended. When Ayoma called off the American attack on Godzilla, I was anticipating a final round, but it never happened. Instead, the film took a hard pivot back into more human drama to lay groundwork for a sequel.
It's still a really good movie with cool visuals and great music. It just didn't totally stick the landing.

Saw it yesterday. It was ridiculously good! Can’t wait to rewatch. The last 10 minutes were fine and were needed based on the overarching plot. Nice way to decompress after the previous 45 minutes.
