he told a segment of his fanbase "frick you"

Whatever, he can do what he wants, but it isn't unreasonable for fans to not take that well. I've wondered to myself whether or not he will finish, so do I qualify, I guess so. I'm not even being pissy, I'm just saying he seems like a huge jerkoff.

I'm not replying to you but to the poster you replied to

Only 4 days. It's not too bad, but if I get transferred it will be the equivalent of a $400/month raise

That's how I feel personally. I like the series and hope he finishes, but if he were to croak as I'm writing this post, then so be it. I would move on with my life fairly quickly while feeling bad for the family and friends he left behind and won't curse him for not taking better care of himself and for not writing with a greater sense of urgency. The books aren't terribly expensive, so I wouldn't feel as if I had wasted a bunch of money. I've spent much more money on much worse things.

Can't imagine the wear and tear on your vehicle. I hate that drive so much, probably why I only go to BR now during football season. Tell SammichMaker hi for me.

What are the chances we see some GRRM vs. HBO legal battles in the next few years? I have no doubt in my mind they'll pass him up. The people who think HBO will string out AFFC/ADWD for 2 seasons are delusional. There isn't enough action without adding 200+ more characters which is ridiculous. They'll have to cut and streamline stories. I think whoever said he may have given them a different ending is right...I def wouldn't put it past him.

HBO wouldn't have gone through with the series if they didn't have permission to go past GRRM or be different than his books. He sold the TV rights to the books for a ton of money, he can't sue now.

Plus why would he? He's making a ton of more money now than he would in a frivolous lawsuit against them and he gets to see him work come alive and he is heavily involved in the seasons and makings of the show. He literally has no incentive to sue hbo to stop production. They could have Jon snow fricking Ned Starks corpse as the opening scene of season 5 and GRRM couldn't do shite about it.

OTOH he has to be the slowest writer ever. I'm not a reader, but I'm familiar of the release dates of each novel and there is no excuse for it to take that many years between novels. JK Rowling almost wrote the entire Harry Potter series in between two of his novels. He doesn't owe the fans, but he does have a responsibility to the work and the story. He could start by quit giving interviews like this and go back to work.

The first three Harry Potter books equal maybe 100 pages more than AGoT the shortest in the series. And that with a larger type face.

Something else that needs to be accounted for is the fact that he was halfway through the forth book before he decided to scrap it and start over. That's one reason why it took longer than the first three to come out.

Then while he was working on the fifth Dan and David start meeting with him for the rights to produce a show. Around 2006, 2007 to give an idea. That first episode of the series took around two years to film and edit. What we saw as an audience was not the original pilot. The first one they showed to HBO and the executives liked it for the most part so they gave it the green light but told them to clean it up. If you look really close you'll notice Sophie Turner ages and gets a little taller in the first episode. There were quite an amount of reshoots. Also Michelle Fairly was not in the original pilot, that should give an idea of how many reshoots they did.

Add the show to his schedule, which btw he is under contract with HBO to write an episode a season, and it's going to be difficult to sit down and get a rhythm going. He did an interview with the nerdist last SDCC where on a know average day he does about 4 pages of manuscript. For those that aren't familiar that's really about 6-8 pages in the books. Now of course that doesn't sound like a lot but he added that some days he'll blast through and do about 20 pages.

The other thing about him "jet setting" around the world is he has obligations to his publishers and I'm sure to HBO to make appearances and speaking arrangements.

I would not think that HBO would allow that.

i would not think someone would give HBO 100% rights to their story.

I already tried to caution him, but he appears to have doubled down with personal attacks instead.

Supply and Demand, HBO would just move on and make someone else a ton of money.
