exactly, blows my mind that there are hundreds of posts about it all over the internet. like THAT is what you're going to argue? get real
And the solution to that is easy: there was a rock slightly off screen and Arya jumped off of it. The problem is she killed him with that dagger despite the writers telling us something different was going to happen. Subverting expectations doesn’t mean something is good.

Except she wasn't being silent. Look at the shot of the WW/Wights around Bran before. They had him surrounded in a small circle. She comes leaping out of a purposefully pitch black shot screaming so they don't have to show that circle, add to that the shot of the stunt itself with her flying through the air by wire. It was just dumb and badly shot. Want the silent assassin attack, do the silent assassin attack. This wasn't it.

whg Does it bother you so much that the people who spent 7.5 seasons worrying about the stopping night king stoppedthe night king? Like did you want the night king to win and the starks in the last breath say “told you so?” Why does the south have to believe in the NK? If Dany wins the rulers of Westeros are probably all at the BOW
I wanted more to this story, I liked the story. They cut it short because they had no idea how to deal with it like Dorne.
The writers have been driving us in this direction, they could of set it up to do things like a retreat to Iron Islands that they also had setup. Instead they made it a last stand.

So with all this talk of prophesy, how ironic is it that "the long night" turned out to be completely literal?
Posted on 5/1/19 at 9:58 am to ell_13
Was it tho? It was a couple nights at best

How many characters got dogpiled then survived? Most of them, at least once, right? I can't remember how many times I thought to myself, "wait, they survived that?" As it kept happening, you could feel an "easy" win coming.

I bet Qyburn is going to kill Varys to round out Mel’s prophecy

What would a retreat to the Iron Isles be?
Honestly in the show Dorne was a complete mess. And who wants to spend time with Dany and then at the Iron Isles?
The writers have been driving us in the direction that really everything that could possible stop the White Walkers is at Winterfel
Winterfel is one of the most significant places in the show. It’s set up as having been build possibly for this purpose.
The Iron isles are not important and watching Danny hangout there while the NK basically just takes over all of Westeros and grows his army Exponentially. Where does that story go?
Honestly if they don’t kill the NK then they’re screwed. They had 0 chance.

The “maesters” who can suspend belief for dragons, White walkers, giants, magic, prophecy, etc, couldn’t wrap their heads around a silent assassin doing silent assassin shite
Or it’s more due to this quote from GRRM:
quote:
I’ve been planting all these clues that the butler did it, then you’re halfway through a series and suddenly thousands of people have figured out that the butler did it, and then you say the chambermaid did it? No, you can’t do that
Well D&D did that exactly and they’ve fessed up to it. If you want to subvert expectations, do it properly. I can’t think of many better examples of this than Blade Runner 2049. It subverts your expectations in the first 5 minutes revealing K is a replicant, and it does it another 5 fricking times in the movie, but they did it correctly and everything makes sense at the end. It wouldn’t make sense if at the end Robin Wright or Luv was the child of Rachel.

And it was all caused by their homo-erotic fantasies about Jon (NTTAWWT)
I think most fans would be slightly disappointed but would have little problem accepting if Dany or Bran finished off the Night King. At least there was build-up there. Handing Arya a knife she later kills Littlefinger with is not foreshadowing.

They were past the wall for a couple nights, yes. But the long night was supposed to be endless darkness which I assumed to be that storm the NK brought.
Posted on 5/1/19 at 10:04 am to ell_13
Yeah... and that’s why they did everything they could to stop the endless night.

And what happens when they get to the Iron Islands? They give up Westeros and are now sitting ducks on an island and the NK still has a dragon so escape by ship isn’t really feasible

The knife was in the book Sam read at the Citadel, plain as day
I’m not saying we all caught that and knew it was Arya, but there were clues

The Night King storyline was preached as one of the most important things going on in the realm, no one is even going to remember it because 90% of the kingdom won't even know if it really even happened. Wights are still a figment of the imagination to most people because you killed off most the fighting force that actually saw them. It really had almost no impact to the 7 Kingdoms. Cersei blowing up the Sept was far more devastating to that world.
Winter is coming so we should all be scared, except it's just for a week or so this time and the long night was just a regular Tuesday.
It will just be those silly northerners and their made up war.
A part of me thinks that the Others storyline is not done and that there is more to it than what we just saw.
Winter is Coming is too much of a deal to be quickly dealt with as soon as it leaves the Wall.
We still have 3 episodes left, you never know.

They were spread out with decent size gaps in between them.
It wasnt an open space until you got to the circle so its not that unrealistic to think that Arya could sneak around in the woods.
Everybody attention was on the NK and Bran. If there was some slight move ment around them they could have easily thought it was just a wight.
If you're mad about the jump, thats fine. I dont think it should be enough to ruin an episode for you, but I dont think the not being able to do a sneak attack is that legit of an argument.
