Benjen was already dead and not being controlled by the Night King. So I don't think he would be controlled now; he was just torn to pieces by the wights.

Just an FYI, they cleaned up Tormund’s giant story for HBO. A bit more detail in the book version.

As a writer, it’s more effective when you let the audience fill in the blanks on their own. Let them imagine some greater mysterious purpose. Hell, an unknown goal that escapes explanation? That’s terrifying.
Saying he’s coming to kill everyone for the sake of killing everyone is somewhat boring, by comparison.

I think once it’s all over, this episode will go down as one of the better ones.
The only thing missing was at least one scene at KL. I doubt there will be one next week and 2 episodes is too long to not even touch on half the storyline.
