One more log for the fire on poor writing- when Jorah and Jon are talking about Longclaw and the former Lord Commander Mormont and how much the Night's Watch meant to him how the heck does Jorah not say, "Hey Jon, funny story. I had greyscale and it was a former Night's Watchman who cured me. He said he knew my father and you sent him to the Citadel to become a Maester; not sure how his other training is going but he cured me and I sure appreciate that".

I'm guessing the writers don't want us to remember Sam stole some books and is heading North though we don't know where. I hope they have representatives from the Citadel at the big wight reveal; having those folks on board and researching history would be helpful.

I've really disliked how they've moved (or not moved) that plot along. Neither Sansa or Arya are acting like the characters they should be considering everything they've been through. Which makes me really, really hope that they're playing LF for once. That doesn't exactly explain their behavior when they're alone, but perhaps it's an Ocean's 12 type thing where they have to assume they're being watched at all times? Idk. It just sucks.

Especially since it appears that Little Finger has somehow maneuvered Sansa to send Brienne away from Winterfell. I wasn't expecting that to happen after they discus Brienne being honor-bond to both of them and would intercede between them if something came up.

Maybe this indicates that Little Finger is going to overtly move against Arya...or Sansa...and didn't want the Big Woman to get in the way.

The thing that really made no sense was why the NK went after Viserius instead of Drogon.

With the Night King having Three Eyed Raven-esque powers, I feel like he knows exactly who Jon and Dany are, and he wants them alive for the war to come.

The Night King could've easily taken out Jon numerous times, but hasn't yet. He wants Jon alive for the great war with the White Walkers.

The thing that got me was how easily 5 men took out hundreds of his wights. Not a good look for the Army of the Dead when 5 dudes on a rock take out a whole bunch of your soldiers against impossible odds.

if they arent going to kill jon for example (and clearly they are not, yet) then stop trying to kill him

I was more bothered by him surviving being tackled into freezing water by wights than Uncle Benjen saving him. People call Uncle Benjen a Deus Ex Machina, but he was created by people that have greensight. Him being in the right place and time to save 2 critical people isn't that crazy.

Even more than stupid stuff like that, this whole season is premised on a dumb idea. The idea that Cersei is actually going to pitch in to this war is ridiculous.

Exactly. The fact that it was Tyrion's idea makes it even worse. Tyrion of all people knows who Cersei is and what her motivations are. He knows she's a vengeful bitch who doesn't care if the whole country burns to the ground.

This is so out of character for Tyrion, and really this whole season has been somewhat out of character for Tyrion. While he's not a war monger, he does realize the necessity of war. But they've turned him into a freaking pacifist this season, who is not willing to do what needs to be done to win a war as quickly as possible. And now they've made him concoct a stupid arse plan to try and convince the one person he knows will never listen to reason, especially if it is coming from him. They've really undercut Tyrion's character this season.

Plus is Bran useless? shite going down and he just sits around Three Eye Ravening it up but no real help.

To be fair, Bran is in the prime of puberty.

Guaranteed he's spending every second he can hooked up to the tree and watching all the times Margaery Tyrell got banged just because he can.

I found it odd too and wonder if Sansa sent Brienne away because LF wanted Sansa to use her. She's super suspicious of LF so if he wants Brienne around maybe the best play is to send Brienne away. Why does she even need to send a personal envoy to Cersei anyway?

I think it's pretty unanimous that the Suicide Mission is something worth happening but was set up terribly. So how could they have done it better? It's not like the WWs can go south of the wall to steal something or someone that needs to be rescued.

I agree. And I think the writing could still have worked had the characters acknowledged this but moved forward thinking that if they could convince enough people (Lords, tIron Bank, etc) it would pull them all to Dany's side leaving Cersei useless. Then she would try something drastic forcing Jaime to kill her.

I would even accept something along the lines of "Cersei will try to betray us, but better to leave humanity in her hands rather than have all of humanity wiped out."

The show is really suffering having 7 episodes (instead of 10). So much that we have been waiting on gets crammed into 30 second exchanges or happens off screen. How do Jon and Jorah not have an exchange about Sam? WHERE THE frick IS HEARTSBANE? The Unsullied are still alive? (Based on the preview) Bran has had 30 seconds of screen time, give or take, why bring him back if that's all he gets?

If S8 is really 6 episodes count me in as nervous.

I'm hoping that S8 will be a much shorter timeline and we won't have as many moving pieces

this season has been all about setting up S8 and they absolutely had to rush to get there

God, I can overlook every other flaw in this episode except for the chains at the end. Why not have the Night King just do the "rise up" motion with his arms like in Hardhome and show Viserion break through the ice with his blue eyes, then cut to black. That would have been so much more effective.

Maybe. There are still four villains the show has to handle. NK, Cersei, LF, and Euron. Maybe one or more bite it next week, but it seems unlikely.

That's 4 villains in 6 episodes plus any denouement we get.

It'll be probably be about seven hours of TV, plus the almost hour and half episode next week. Think how much Lord of the Rings accomplished in about the same time frame.

Nitpicks never bother me unless they're too stupid. I can nitpick some great movies and tv shows

Even the night's king forgoing the easy kill on drogon and everyone riding him for the uncle Rico shot...which was pretty glaring

A friend just pointed this out to me. Bran's vision from The Door looks a lot like the setting for the episode last night.
