I believe Ian McShane is headed to American Gods on Starz next. He's going to be playing Mr. Wednesday and I'm stoked as hell as a result.

McShane did pretty much nail the part though. I like how the bring in top actors for small roles here and there. Though I did think they could have done a bit more with Von Sydow.

I didn't expect him to die off that quickly, and I don't think it will be that way in the books.
Sandor definitely isn't the reformed man of god that he seems to be in the books, so I'm not sure how he'd be the sparrows' choice for champion. Maybe he just shows up at KL and offers to be, but wouldn't he be immediately arrested?

I think most expect a little more resolution to her storyline than this seemingly random way to die.
I personally think she was stabbed and will get picked up by one of the Lord of Light red ladies.
Mel did say they would meet again. area is not dead.

the question that should be asked is why did they choose to kill THOSE people, and not even take the food and women. i think they were after the hound, and were told to kill him and everyone with him. easy to believe if someone who wants the hound dead were calling the shots
Interesting! I didn't notice the food was left behind.

What. The. Frick.

Sam has no powers..YET, He said he always wanted to be a wizard. Him and Gilly headed to Old Town to study being a maester. Maesters have no powers except to heal the sick. Sam will learn to be a sorcerer. He isnt reading old scrolls and texts to heal people with bandaids and medicine. He still wants to be a wizard and now that magic is happening all over, he will get to be King Arthur's Merlin. No doubt in my mind.

No shite sherlock.. I know its valeryian steel and it kills a white walkers. Everyone knows that but Sam is not going to start slaying WW with a sword. He cant even cut a fence post with it. He will learn to be a wizard, not a knight. The sword will play a part but no body knows how yet. Thre are only 5 or 6 V swords in the whole show, so they will kill every WW with a V-sword? No. They will use magic.
What. The. Frick.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jorah makes his way to Old Town to,seek a cure and eventually obtains Sam's V steel sword. Just a guess.

It's easier for me to believe Sam is going to learn magic than it is to believe he is going to fight the WW army.
Were they building a church or a house in the opening scene where we see the hound?

That's what I get for mingling with the peasants.

Well, from teh books, we know that the maesters are the ones who killed off the old dragons, and they fully intend to do the same to the new ones. The dragons seem to be the center or source of all magic in the world, so the solution to the WW might be to kill them off. Maybe Sam gets convinced that this is the proper choice.

There is a theory that the Waif doesn't exist in the real world and is simply a creation of Arya's mind.

Of course Sam isn't a fighter. He will learn knowledge that will help in the fight against the WW, find locations of more dragon glass, track down lost valyrian steel weapons, perhaps. I'm thinking he'll find evidence to Jon Snow's parentage somewhere in the Citadel. Sam is a crucial part of the end game, no doubt about it.
But a wizard? I'm pretty sure when he said that he was laughing at the innocence of childhood future goals, not a real ambition.

I didn't care to count, but I figured they were building a seven-sided church.

I took that as her not knowing where the next hit was going to come from and trying to block something that wasn't actually happening.

Maybe they clarify this in the book that it is not possible (it has been a few years since I have read them), but I have thought that Sam might try and find a way to basically reverse engineer the Valyrian steel sword and try to find a way to reproduce the swords and their magic.
Edit: not on his own, consulting blacksmiths, magic folk, etc.
