Everyone had their own idea of how awesome it was. None of those versions ended up on screen.

Well I think it's safe to say there won't be a GNC on the show. Guess Greatjon died at the Red Wedding too instead of just being taken hostage.

yeah my biggest gripe about last night's episode is definitely the Umbers giving up Rickon
not sure how I feel about that, but I guess it will get Jon moving on Winterfell when Ramsey sent his note

I think there are ulterior motives to giving up Rickon.

Is it possible there won't be? Sure. But given the climate of the show (and what storylines are still intact) they had to go big or go home to sell that conspiracy to Ramsey. I don't put it past killing Shaggydog for that.

I don't like Smalljon handing over Rickon but I understand it. There are thousands of Wildlings living literally right above the Last Hearth now (including a freaking giant) and they need numbers. Killing Shaggy Dog was necessary for proof. Handing over Osha as well though is fricked up because she's of no value and he has to know Ramsay will rape and torture the shite out of her.

I pose this question on another forum: Is it okay to give up on the show ever bringing up Lady Stoneheart? I mean she has quite a story in the books and it seems we're all just skipping the river lands at this point....

They come into play this season. To what extent who knows and with LSH I would say no.

Agreed.
I am getting sick of everything perfectly falling into Ramsey's lap, but I think we all know that he'll be dead meat at the end of this season.

Jon is about to crush him, though I am still hopeful for the GNC

He was needed back in Baltimore for a bit. He will return later in the season.

Yes I think Stoneheart just isn't happening

Baltimore? He was already governor of Maryland in 08 so he's probably the POTUS by now.

I think we'll see him soon.

The episode was exactly what I thought it would be. Of course, Jon was going to do his thing and brood about being brought back to life. In his way, the idea of being brought back after paying for what he perceives as a mistake is a slight against his honor, sort of a cheat.
I am a little disappointed in the Tower scene because it was a chance for D&D to let Martin's writing shine through. The book dialogue is more than perfect. I wonder if we are supposed to take the show's retelling of events as the truth and Ned's dream-like retelling as sort of fantasy portrayal? In any event, the two swords were pretty exciting but I would have like to see Dawn, pale as milk.
I was glad to see the traitors pay their price (FRICK OLLY, ALL DAY!), but I am sad to see Thorne die. Through out the series, Thorne represented the cold logic of duty. Duty doesn't care about your feelings and duty isn't there to make friends. Duty is there to see it through, to see that the job is done. Thorne was a count, but he and men like him are why the Watch has been able to last for as long as it has. His speech before the rope was perfect. I think their dialogue probably sealed the deal with Jon quitting.
