I don't have one, but that's just the feeling I got from the way they talked about it. Just a personal observation.

What was the "breadcrumb" explanation for Dany dropping her ring?
They said she dropped the ring "because she was smart" and hoped the ring would point anyone looking for her in the direction her captors took her. That doesn't make sense and isn't really satisfying at all.
Unless, well, Jorah knows the Dothraki customs for former Khaleesis, so he might surmise that she dropped her ring to keep from being taken to the Dothraki old woman village. That would tell him that the Dothraki took her. That might make sense.

You doubt Brienne's stubbornness at this point?

It just wouldn't make any sense

Agreed. Like I said, it's just the feeling I got from the way they were talking it up.

To me, they were just giving Stannis a eulogy
Everyone is gonna remember the Shireen incident, they were reminding people that for most of the show, that wasn't what people thought of him. There's good with the bad, just like every other character in the show

Also plausible. We'll find out when filming begins.

They talked a lot about how Brienne saw Stannis as an honorable man when she expected to find a truly wicked man.
I liked how Stannis owned killing his brother with blood magic. I was expecting his final words to be, "It wasn't worth it." His appeal to her duty may have reminded her that she was never appointed his judge, jury and executioner - and she kept him alive in case he can be useful in her actual mission.
Of course, her killing him at this point could be considered "Mother's Mercy" - sparing him a lingering death among the remains of his army - or, worse, falling into the hands of the Boltons.

Was just going to post this. Stannis got off easy if Brienne killed him there. Ramsey would flay him, or worse, turn him into Reek 2.0.

The only thing making me question is that the ending somewhat reminded me of the cliffhanger with LSH and Brienne in the book.
Isn't it speculated that Brienne's last word is "duty" when LSH is about to kill her?
But it makes no sense for Stannis to survive, so I'll just assume that exchange was just a nod to the book readers.

This is another reason I'm holding out hope that Stannis isn't dead. An off-screen death was too fricking good for him.

SPOILER FOR THE BOOKS (maybe)
I thought it was "Sword!" -
(Not there yet, but that's what I saw somewhere else.)

She still has to honor her promise to Catelyn Stark; and Stannis is a means to that end. He could be used to help her to secure Sansa's safety (or fArya, for book readers).

How? He has nothing to do with Sansa. He doesn't even know she's alive.
You think the Boltons are gonna trade their key to the north for a crippled false king or something?
Posted on 6/16/15 at 12:30 pm to wildtigercat93
At the very least, Brienne could have turned Stannis over to the Boltons just to gain access to Winterfell. To win favor and get closer to Sansa; she is an agent of King Tommen, afterall.
That might be a moot point, but Brienne doesn't know that Sansa has escaped.

The Boltons would agree and then flay her once she brought Stannis in the gates

Are we sure Stannis is dead?
Posted on 6/16/15 at 12:41 pm to Cosmo
That's what were arguing about right now.
I just don't see any reason for it. He serves no purpose alive now.

I don't think so, where's the body?

quote:Agree. Basically, what the Sand Hos did was to almost ensure that TRystane would die or, at the very least, that Jaime would sail right back to Dorne and absolutely ensure that all of them would be executed. No war would be started because of this, and even if there was, the throne would rain destruction all over their highly outnumbered forces.
I thought it was interesting that he got Trystane on the small counsel, but how the hell are you going to protect that kid? You really think he won't end up dead with Cersei back there? Unless he wants him dead. Or he thinks Myrcella's love for him will protect him. The fact that he didn't send Areo Hotah or somebody with him seems moronic. Moreover, the lack of any discussion or mention of sending Quentyn to Essos to woo Dany and all of the other preparations he has made, including befriending Varys, seems to indicate that the showrunners are nerfing the frick out of him, which is shitty. If that's any indication of the books, I am going to burn GRRM in effigy.
Smooth move, bitches.

I won't say I'm sure, but I would certainly put my money on 'dead' if I had to bet. His story seems done, and we saw Brienne swing.
