re: Game of Thrones S4:E8:"The Mountain and the Viper", HODORS ONLY no book readers

a broad spear to somebody seven feet tall would be like what to somebody 5 feet tall, an arrow? Rob stark took like 20 of those. Plus mountain could climb and exert enough force to crush a head...

This is going from memory, but he didn't just stab the spear in his abdomen, he moved it around laterally quite a bit. Definitely the type of thing you'd either bleed out from, or in that era of medicine get an infection and die from. If the Mountain surviving is important to the story it wouldn't be shocking if he lived, but it would be a little unrealistic based on what we saw.
Also, at one point Oberyn shoved his spear straight through Mountain as well (it was from an angle sort of far away though, but I watched the fight several times and it looks like the spear went all the way through and out his back).

The spear head was like a dagger. Easily 2-3 bigger than an arrow head if not more. The Mountain might weigh 2-3 times more than Oberyn, but frame and organ size, 5'8 to 8' is about a 40% increase.

The person who first mentioned the poison said they got it from the HBO extras, which are included with every episode. So if anyone spoiled anything, it was HBO. Just like they did with the season preview showing Oberyn vs the Mountain.

Nobody is saying they can't do just that. But people taking things as fact is not the same as people assuming theories or things like that.
It's whatever really anyway, but you're arguing something that isn't what I'm arguing at this point...I agree that people can pay attention and put things together (I've had to rewatch scenes before because I missed something...that's happened several times) and make guesses. But that's not the same thing as stating facts on things that aren't facts yet. It was the same thing with Joffrey's death...saying that he was poisoned from Sansa's necklace isn't something that was derived by "paying attention well." That's something that you either knew because you read it in the books, or heard it from another source (other sites, readers, etc.). Some of that went way past just speculation.
I disagree because I make the assumption that this is a well crafted show. Although absolute certainty is never possible (with respect to how Joffrey was poisoned for example) the show often does give enough clues for a firm opinion to be defended in other cases. The Viper probably using poison is a good example IMO. There's no certainty that Ob used poison but there is enough foreshadowing that any careful viewer should consider it a strong possibility.
My sense of the discussions in this thread is anyone who makes a careful observation is instantly attacked by others who haven't watched or thought as carefully. IMO this destroys the only purpose of the threads unless every discussion is supposed to be a "Chris Farley remember that when this happened..." skit.

An unfortunate side effect of readers posting IMO, but it seems to have gotten better since Chicken's thread I think.
But I've seen plenty of things/theories discussed that aren't jumped on or accused as spoilers. Plenty in this thread alone, and I've only been in it for a couple of days.
And now I am heading to youtube to watch those Farley skits.

It has gotten better. However, the only way to stay 100% spoiler free on this show is to:
a) not talk to anyone about the show, ever
b) don't read the interwebz
Since both are impossible, spoilers are bound to happen. I talk to non-book readers about the show and their "original theories" magically come true quite often

I just try to avoid theories all together - I just assume someone knows what is going to happen and is trying to impress me with their deep thoughts
Next clown that tries to talk theory with me I'll just walk away, ears plugged, singing to myself

Yea, that was the most random fricking place for a spoiler. Couldn't believe there was one in that thread.
What thread was it and who posted the spoiler?

Rewatching the fight now. Underrated line of the episode is when Oberyn's wife is like "He's the biggest man I've ever seen," and he says "Size does not matter when you're lying on your back." And Tyrion says "Thank the gods."

This is starting to look like the only option to escape spoilers. Even if you avoid this board, some jerkoff somewhere is going to spoil you, and nothing is worse than being told something you did not already know.

My prediction for next week: Jon Snow will be involved in combat.
Think about it. the show runners made it a point to very subtly point out to us that there are only 100 Nightswatch in Castle Black and there are fricking Wildlings everywhere around them moving in for the attck. Also, if you watched very carefully, you'd notice that Jon Snow was actually IN Castle Black. So, I'm pretty sure he's gonna fight.
It all makes sense if you pay attention.
There, is that theory simple enough to avoid being branded a reader?

Is it hijacking if I ask about this in this thread?

assume we will finally get to see some shite hit the fan at Castle Black. So we have Tormund/Ygritte and the Thenns coming from the south (or whatever direction), and Mance and the wildling army from the north, and ~100 Crowd at CB right?
Yep. It will be a huge battle at CB with Jon mercing the wildlings. shite, he'll probably kill one of the giants, too.
