Right....he went to the Wall not long after Ned returned to Winterfell and Robb was around 2 or 3 I think.

If Ben and Ned planned for Jon to take the Black, it makes sense for Ben to go ahead and establish himself, to protect Jon when he joined.

This assuming Ben knows R+L=J

We don't know what the entire promise Ned made to Lynna entailed. It could be she begged Ned to take care of Jon, and provide for him a life safe from politics and war altogether, a simple existance- hence the Wall.

***edit***

Nevermind, I think I was over-thinking it.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I think Benjen helped Lyanna to the TOJ to meet up with Rhaegar and to help keep R+L=J quiet he agreed to go to the Wall as "punishment". Or he at least knew about Lyanna and Rhaegar. Forgot he was the Stark in Winterfell during RR.

But it's also possible that Benjen was recruited to the Wall and was just used as a storyline to introduce the Wall and the NW. We are told that Benjen was impressed by the NW recruiter at the Harrenhall tourney

Nobody right now. That's why "Winter" has arrived

Just watched this episode and loved it. Literally every scene was enjoyable from my perspective. They even managed to make the mundane book version of Brienne's quest/search for Sansa somewhat interesting by injecting HotPie's information about Arya and the Hound. And seeing Lysa screaming as she fell through the moondoor was perfection.

I freaked out when Hot Pie showed up on screen and giving them the second wolf bread made me so happy.

I think Benjen definitely knew about Jon's true parents, but only because Ned told him. I don't think Benjen would believe the story of Ned sleeping with another woman so Ned told him the truth.

I would say that cold hands isn't benjen now that the show hasn't folded in. That was the theory that I heard early on but if that were the case I would think they would have brought in cold hands.

See on a theory like this I wonder if GRRM was like "don't show this guy in the series because I haven't fully developed what I want to in the books yet"

I wonder how much/if any thought goes into it by GRRM for what they aren't allowed to spoil because readers don't know etc.

Right so they may not write in Cold Hands yet if there is something HUGE going to happen in the books for a reveal

I thought Coldhands was the Night's King Brandon Stark.

Did you get that theory from the James Johnson-mom duo youtube videos? That's where I saw it from.
