I was thinking the same thing while watching this episode. Stannis has plenty of faults. But being a pushover is not really one of them. Here he flip flopped like a pair of cheap footwear. He puts a lot of faith in Melissandre's hands but it always seemed like he was much more forceful and unbending then he's been presented in the show sometimes. (of course it's been quite awhile since I've read that section of the books and maybe he was that pliable but I don't remember it that way).

So Benioff and Weis have actually said they hate Stannis as a character? Guess we can assume they think Dany is the best.

Fwiw I thought the Dragonstone part of the finale was good (Davos and the Night's Watch letter) and Dany's cheesy as hell.
