I'll put up family trees and a FAQ reference sheet on the first post. a newbie primer if you will. I'll work on that and give links and stuff in the morning. HBOs site has good stuff also www.winter-is-coming.net is a must if you get into it.

Aside from the other obvious positives this shows a regular T&A buffet. I'm setting up a season pass right now.

Good first episode. It was done well. I'm curious to see if they follow the book really closely or stray a little bit.

Nope. Jorah is the knight that gave her a gift. The guy hanging with them, is Magister Illyrio Mopatis

I missed the first airing but I've just opened a bottle of '07 Chateauneuf du Pape, Domaine Vieux Telegraphe for the replay.

There will be 10 episodes the first season.
It will run 6 seasons if it does well.

Thanks, I might check it out........I'm out of town and need something to read.

A Song of Ice and Fire
G.R.R. Martin
Book 1
Game of Thrones
Book 5 will be out in June, and book 6 before season 3 or 4 I would bet.
Book 4 is the weakest I hear, only because he left out 4-5 main characters.

Dude start a spoilers thread if you want to compare the book to the series. Did you not notice the thread title? "Season Long Thread"?

<---- Hasn't read the books (but have a feeling I'm going to have to after watching a few episodes).
It was a really really solid start to the series. Definitely something to hold me over in the off-season.
The Others freak me the hell out. Creeptastic.
I like the mix between medieval realism and obvious fantasy. It seems you get books/series that are so over the top in the fantasy department that it's hard to realistically relate to the characters. This definitely seems to bring just the right mix so far.

I didn't make it through Book 4 because I was so pissed that they left out most of the main characters.
