I don't remember reading that in the books. He beat her all the time, yes, but don't know if he raped her.

His role really wasn't too credible. Jorah tried to warn him and you would think even a dumbass would recognize that the Dothroki are not to be trifled with. But nooooooooo, the fool was obviously possessed with delusions of grandeur. Just a great scene with him getting his golden crown.
