ppl should be able to post ab references to the book in this thread bc it goes hand in hand w/ the show. If someone wants to go off on book theories, etc, I agree this isn't the thread for it obviously. If it weren't for book readers, there'd be no info in this thread and no one posting in it.
If a truebie (book reader fan) wants to answer a question a newbie (tv fan)posts, they should do it with a simple yes or no type answer. And don't go into too much detail. For Example: If I ask, "In the show Blah of Blah, is the blond haired girl really a fairy?" A truebie should not respond, "Well yes, but she doesn't know it yet and it won't matter anyways to the plot of the show because she's gonna die next week anyways."

will someone explain to me who the two gheys are and how they fit into this story?
So far all I have learned is that one of them is a knight and the other is fourth in line to the throne.

Renly Baratheon, the bearded one (no pun intended), is the King's youngest brother. If both the King's sons and the Kings other brother, Stannis, all died, he would be king. He is fourth in line. He is also on the king's Council.
The younger one is Loras, the Knight of Flowers. He is a young knight of high esteem and comes from a very powerful family.

the one giving head correct? how is he a knight of high esteem? looks like a fagot pussy to me.
not questioning your judgement just further curious.
also. is the lil prick son of the queen the king's or jamie's?
after the convo between king and queen last night i've concluded it's jamie's and how he isn't retarded or having of a 3rd nipple i don't know.
i feel like to fully understand WTF is goin on, I have to watch the episode, read this thread, then rewatch the episode.

it hasnt been stated, but you are supposed to assume jamies.
my thing with that, i understand kings can do whatever they want, which includes affairs. Queens however are usually put to death for being unfaithful. so obviously robert would realize those arent his kids. how does he just not give a frick? i mean he will be giving his throne to a non-blood son.

i dunno.
i haven't read any books or anything just reading the character i see on screen.
i don't think he gives a damn about her cheating at all. probably knows. nothing was ever there between them from the beginning, because he was in love with Stark's sister and only cares about banging other whores and getting drunk.
now when it comes to who he is giving his thrown to, i have a feeling he will lay down the law and ensure it's bloodline of some sort.
but i'm just speculating. i could be 100% wrong.

Just within the confines of the show, he beat the Mountain that Rides (Ser Gregor Clegane, the Hound's brother) in a joust. That is quite a feat.
Expanding beyond that to books and so on, Loras is the youngest knight and is just highly skilled. He is not a hardened battle knight, he hasn't fought any wars, he's just highly skilled.

ahhh. that's how he plays into the story. completely forgot that was him.
he gave a flower to Stark's ginger daughter correct? what was the purpose of that?

If those turn out not to be his kids then he would have to choose if he wants non-family to inherit or if he wants is next older brother's family to get it. Basically do you want everyone knowing you had no kids with the queen? I guess if he had any bastard kids they might have a claim to the throne too.
Could get to be a big war if the non-son, a bastard son, and the brother's kid ever wanted to fight over the throne.

he isnt openly gay. he has a persona to act on. i think hes perceived as a ladies man. so he has to keep up the image

It is questions like that that lead to spoilers. Just watch the show and enjoy it. If you need to know why something happened and it wasn't clearly stated on the show then go read the book.

yea but I guess maybe he wants her to be his beard like Katie Holmes is to Tom Cruise. Gotta put on a show and keep them thinking you are a manly ladies man!

not really. its more like people thinking out loud and leading to discussions. people who have read obviously know for a fact of the answers. thats its hard for non book readers to discuss between each other.

I suppose it is possible that he swings both ways.

Yes, really. That is exactly the kind of question that will lead to spoilers. If you are thinking out loud you say, "I wonder if..."
He asked "Why" big difference.

One of the cornerstones of chivalry is the notion that you are fighting on behalf of someone else... either God, those less fortunate than you, or a lady. At a tournament (in the "real" world - Middle Ages), it was customary for a knight who practiced chivalry to recognize a lady from the assembled crowd and possibly exchange tokens with her before jousting. It was a BIG deal to get singled out like that by a knight.
Now, not all knights are courteous. Gregor Clegane doesn't give a shite about it. But Loras Tyrell does. That's the purpose of giving Sansa the flower. It has the added effect of showing everyone publically that he likes the ladies... deflecting interest in his alternate lifestyle.
When it comes to Loras, don't shortchange him by focusing on his orientation. He really is a pretty cool character.

if you are so afraid of spoilers....why not just avoid the thread?
no point in being a fricking douche about it.
i will continue to ask questions because I am curious. You and Chryso can kiss my arse.

If you want spoilers, a-hole, go to the thread for people who have read the book. I have read it and will tell you anything you want to know. But only over there. I don't want to spoil the story for people who want to discuss what they have seen but don't want to know what is coming.
