True Blood lent itself to deviating from the source material from what I understand. This, not so much.

FYI on ratings:
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the ratings actually rose slightly, by about 10% this week. They held steady for 2 weeks before that. That's a really good thing.

quote:yea, the producers even received the first 600 pgs of the next book from GRRM so that they would have an understanding of how things will go in the story 5 books in. Not to mention the author being a co-EP and writing one ep. per season.

Did he?

hope no one spoils it for you by confirming your theories or not, just keep watching. some questions from this season wont' be answered for awhile, some of the deeper ones still aren't 4 books in, but there are clues if you know what to look for.

They didn't say Jaime killed him. They said some very vague things in that scene.

I know it was already mentioned but here is writeup on entertainment weekly:
'Game of Thrones' ratings rise for first time!

Combined with the 11 p.m. airing, the show climbed to 3.1 million viewers, well above the previous benchmark of 2.9 million. Meanwhile Thrones premiere episode has climbed up to 8.7 million viewers via all the HBO platforms. Needless to say, this is exactly what HBO was hoping to see.

Between sick kids and bin laden I haven't watched this week's episode. Was it good? Where did they end?

It was slower than the other episodes, I enjoyed it, but the the girlfriend who hasn't read the books said it was sort of boring and the weakest of the three episodes. No climactic ending just ended with Syrio and Arya practicing.

I thought that was a great scene.

It was a great scene, just not a cliff hanger or shocking climax like episode one and two.

I suppose, like anything, it's all a matter of personal preference. I haven't read the books either (reading behind the show, currently) and I didn't find it slow or boring at all (possibly b/c with so many new characters being introduced and new relationships to keep track of, I had to pay close attention to keep from getting confused). I also dislike Sansa a little less after Ned's explanation of her situation to Arya and I dislike the queen even *more* after reading how the exchange about killing Lady went down in the book
**MINI BOOK SPOILER FOR THAT PART, avert your eyes if you care**
(props to Ned for sending the body back to Winterfell for burial).
mini book spoiler over... heh
I just have to reiterate how frikkin' awesome it was to see Viserys get bitch slapped (whip-slapped?) by Dany's body guard for acting like such a pompous arse. It's been a long time coming. Maybe he'll realize that HE awakened the dragon, rather than the other way around!

Most of what Destrahan Tiger said is correct, except that Winterfell is not the same as the realm of the north. Winterfell is the stronghold of house Stark. They are the primeier family in the North, which encompasses many lands held by many lords, all of which owe fealty to Ned as his bannermen. There are several landed families with strongholds in each realm.

Episode 3 was my favorite. I think the show has improved each week, and I can't wait for the Tourney of the Hand! I could not believe an hour had passed when this weeks episode ended.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like that if you hadn't read the books, certain characters as you see them in the show now wouldn't be developed enough.
My specific example if of Viserys. I feel like I was excited when he got embarrassed in the show all because of the book and not because of his character and its development only in the show. And I feel like I wouldn't have seen enough of him to get any pleasure out of seeing him get humiliated if I had just watched the show without reading the books.
I probably sound like an idiot, but is anyone watching the show without reading the books?
