Well I'm glad something does.

I am reading the books but at the point when I saw this part of the show, I had not reached this point in the books, and as you can tell by two previous posts, I loved that he got what he deserved in that scene. So, though you may get a better idea of just how long he has been abusive and how much abuse he has heaped on Dany through the years, I feel like it was pretty well set up in their opening scenes when he brings her the gown and gropes her/threatens her then later tells her he is basically selling her for an army and doesn't care if the khal and all 40,000 of his men AND their horses f*ck her if it gets him back his throne. The books add layers of complexity to the story but after reading it, I don't feel any great EUREKA moments or enlightenment compared to the show, just that there is a richness of description. He writes well. But you gotta hand it to the show, they are doing a bang up job.

I haven't read the books and I am enjoying the hell out of this series.
I think they do a great job of showing how badly the prince deserved to get whip-choked as well as the tides changing.
I also feel that absolutely no one should be trusted.
The only thing I get tired of is every scene in the "barbarian" land starts with a close-up of the eggs. I get it.. it will come up huge at some point and the dragons will fight a direwolf or something.... but the candles and eggs get old.

Thanks for the input both of you.
The show is great and definitely doing the book justice.

I have not read much ahead of the current show so no spoilers, but I feel like its pretty obvious the eggs are going to hatch. If not, that is what I get from watching the show.

Yeah, I'm just guessing from the foreshadowing I've seen so far.

I really hate that they show the eggs nine times every episode, it is rather annoying.

Its just... you know, .. it seems like the time they waste showing a large pine-cone looking egg they could be showing boobies. I'm intellectual like that.

I can say I really enjoyed it one time, and that was because Danaerys was just seen getting pounded with her tig ol' bitties hanging out.
Man she is smokin.
Edit:
I think you beat me to it. (Pun?)

My specific example if of Viserys. I feel like I was excited when he got embarrassed in the show all because of the book and not because of his character and its development only in the show. And I feel like I wouldn't have seen enough of him to get any pleasure out of seeing him get humiliated if I had just watched the show without reading the books.
despite the audience not having much interaction with him, we understand his goal is the throne and nothing is above sacrifice to get there.

I guess I see that now. It is just hard to appreciate the show as much as it should be when I am reading the book right along side of it.

Hmm...I watched the first 3 episodes and really liked them. So I bought the book and I'm catching up now. Should I not?

I'm not going to read the books, because then I will know what happens next.
Posted on 5/5/11 at 8:32 pm to TexasTigah

I wouldn't read ahead, just let the show surprise you. And then go back and read, either week to week or after the season but that's just me george.
