They were both nominated for Oscars in the exact same year but their careers went in two different directions. I wonder why that is?

I'm sorry...but Hollywood isn't very forgiving to morbidly obese actors who aren't comedians. Anna Kendrick, on the other hand, is a fairly in shape female with a decent amount of range.

I imagine the seas parting like they did in The Ten Commandments if she were to jump in a pool.

Hollywood is hard for everybody for a variety of reasons. She should be lucky she has work at all.

That chick looks like queen of the Ewoks. I American Horror story her acting stood out in a bad way.

Hard to have much range except for a defensive lineman for her

To be honest, her appearance didn’t prevent her from having a career. Melissa McCarthy did it, Rosanne did it. If this girl had the talent they’d have had roles for her too.

Now not being generically attractive, you’re limited in roles. But that didn’t stop Jason Alexander and other “average looking” actors.

She just has a limited range and was lucky to find a role that fell into that small range and worked with her appearance. There are plenty of black movies with roles for someone with her appearance. If they’re not hiring her, that tells you something.

Doesn't really help her that her nomination was for one of the more depressing movies of the last decade. You aren't going to get many people who watch Precious more than once so it won't have the staying power that in people's minds that something like Up In The Air might. Another thing is AK can sing which led to her casting in in Pitch Perfect. Getting that role is really what put her on the map when it comes to the public at large. Even though she had been nominated for an Oscar before AK landed Pitch Perfect she was still doing mostly supporting roles.

OMG. Aside from the obvious reasons why the seas didn't part for her relative to Anna Kendrick, Hollywood is filled to the brim with wannabes wondering why they didn't get same opportunities as some A-lister they think they are just as good as. And while luck is always involved, Anna Kendrick is also very talented and versatile.

You know someone is going to ask Kendrick for a response. She has to be nice, she can't say the obvious things. Will she talk about her white privilege?

Since Precious she's been working steadily for a decade.

90 episodes of Empire
30 episodes of something called The Big C
21 episodes of American Horror Story
12 episodes of something called Difficult People
10 episodes of Brad Neely's Harg Nallin' Sclopio Peepio

She's been in 10 movies including

Tower Heist
Seven Psychopaths
Antebellum

And has guest starred on a number of other TV shows. I would argue that her size has been the reason for her career rather than her downfall.

Also, after reading the article, I feel like the headline is a little click baity. Yes she did say that but reading the rest of what she says she doesn't really sound bitter like the headline would lead you to believe.

quote:

“I’ve heard the idea that I’m just lucky before,” Sidibe said. “I’ve heard that. I’m an extremely unlucky person, actually. I work really, really hard though. And no, the Hollywood seas didn’t part for me in the same way that it might have for maybe Anna Kendrick who was nominated for the first time that year as well, who then went on to star in films and television and the whole thing. The seas did not part that same way for me and I assume that there are a few factors that made that so, but I am still working 10 years later.”

Sidibe continued, “I’m still working 12 years after having filmed [‘Precious’]. I have agency. I am comfortable with who I am. I know my voice. I know what I want to say to the world. I know what I want to give to the world and what I want to give to myself. I know my artistry. And so, you know, starring in things or being on the covers of magazines, all of these things that say that I’ve ‘made it,’ everything that solidifies my position on the A-list, whatever that means, doesn’t actually mean anything to my self-worth and my sense of artistry.”

All you have to do is watch her in AHS to see why she isn't getting all the roles ever.

She can't act. She can only play one emotion. And she looked like the weakest actor in all the scenes she did in AHS

Anna Kendrick hasn't sniffed an Oscar since and probably never will.

She's on par with Kristin Bell in terms of - she could do a good tv show if she wanted, she could do plenty of voice work if she wanted, she can continue being a co-leading actress in easy movies for general audiences if she wanted.

The oceans would have to part, not the seas.

Even Rebel Wilson got with the program and came to grips with needing to lose weight.

Hollywood runs on the casting couch tradition, and when you're the size of a baby hippo, ain't nobody got time for that = no opportunities.

Every person you just named is a comedian. This chick is not that. Only ugly/fat chicks that are stars are comedians

I’d have a much better chance walking out to the nearest lake with a stick and getting the waters to part than I would trying to pry those damn thighs apart

There have been other cases where somebody is cast for a VERY SPECIFIC ROLE; just because you get critical praise doesn't mean you're now seen as an everywoman.

I mean Precious was an niche role in the grand scheme of Hollywood.

And as a comparison she would have to pick the biggest waif actress in Hollywood as a comparison.

I don't think even Hollywood wants Kendrick's body as the norm for female leads.
