They just bullshitted all their backstories throughout the first season. In the first episode they show Landry driving Matt to school. Landry was apparently a freshman with a car driving to his first day of high school.

I watched the first season and just assumed Riggins was a senior. He looked 25 and was constantly partying. I start season 2 and realize he was supposed to have been a sophomore. ??

Yea they basically de-aged them all a year when they realized the show would be a hit.

Riggins and Lyla being sophomores made no sense at all, shite Riggins was literally drinking beers in bars

Just finished watching all of the show! Great show and your synopsis was pretty spot on with what I felt as well. Was not a fan of Season 5. Too much character turnover, but when they're supposed to be in high school, thats what happens

Middle of season 4 now. I'm struggling with the East Dillon storyline and Dillion going from likable to total douche bags in one episode, basically. The compelling characters are still compelling but i'm not connecting yet with the new ones.

I think you will. Maybe not like the originals but I felt pretty invested with the new kids by the end of the show.

I hope so.

I'm not going to lie, I've teared up more with this show than any other I have watched.

I finished S4 the other day and am currently 1 episode into season 5.

I'm with the others in that I'm not really attached and drawn to the new folks. I don't hold it against them or the show though I think it's only natrual. We first watch a show and get enamored iwht it based on characters we've grown to know, then all of a sudden (due to it being high school) all those people are gone and we have a new crop instead.

I still like it though, I'm definitely not talking shite about it. But I do see a definite drop off from earlier seasons.

Sometimes I feel like coach Taylor was the high school version of Les Miles. He gets a 4/5 star quarterback show up and he’s dead set on riding with Saracen.

Not just that but he's really exposed when he didn't immediately make Vince QB at East Dillon. Any shitty HS coach knows to just put it in your best player's hands if you've got a crappy team. Then when he finally did make Vince QB he didn't want to run the Vince/Luke package on offense.
