Okay, so it's not a top 10 comedy of the decade.
To you it's not. To me it is. And that's regardless of how many Emmys or any other awards/nominations it has.

They aired in the 90's. That was the criteria.
Of course they did. My point was that the majority of the particular shows aired outside of the 90s.

In order for this to work, you're going to have to be honest.
I'd never not be honest on here. I disagree with most of your list that those shows are better than FPoBA. I even said that it was arguable that FP could be listed with shows like Simpsons or Seinfeld, and the whole point of all of this was that you said FP was "not that good at all," which is something I think most people (especially my age) would disagree with.
quote:
If you think that FPoBA is should be considered before The Simpsons (amongst others that you listed), then we either had a misunderstanding, you're full of bullshite, or you are just plain wrong.
I like The Simpsons. I think it's a good show. But I never got all into it or anything. It was never a "must watch" for me at any point in my life. Now, I've seen tons of Simpsons episodes, and I enjoy them, but if I had to list my favorite shows from the 90s I wouldn't list Simpsons. I don't think it's "better" than FP. Same with Seinfeld. I may be in the vast minority on that, but that's how I honestly feel.
shite, you even said that you could list ten shows from the 90s "that we would both agree should be considered great comedies," but that doesn't mean that it's a top ten list or anything. The 90s were just a good decade for sitcom television. And if I was making a list, a good bit of shows you listed wouldn't come anywhere near it.

Coach and Newsradio were also both much better than FPoBA.

Disagree on both, though I really liked Coach a lot. Didn't like NewsRadio at all.

Is there a better show than FPoBA?
Posted on 5/2/13 at 11:17 am to MrFreakinMiyagi
Sure. Lots I'd imagine. Of the shows you listed (not all of which are 90s shows and not all of which are sitcoms, which would be the comparable thing to FPoBA), I could say I liked Cheers, Married With Children, South Park, Home Improvement more than FP at certain times. Maybe even Friends, Scrubs, or Roseanne at other times.
Freaks and Geeks may be the best show you listed (certainly one of), but it isn't comparable IMO.
The thing is, you just think FpoBA is a terrible show. And that's fine. But the general consensus is that it's not. Nobody is claiming it to be the greatest anything, but it was pretty hilarious and certainly belongs in the discussion of "good/great 90s shows/sitcoms." You just hated it apparently and refuse to acknowledge that it could even possibly be a good show to people for some reason. You obviously jumped in the thread to be the contrarion, and it's gotten to where you're basically trolling the thread at this point.

No, I don't
It's not terrible. It's just not near as good as this board makes it out out be, ie a great comedy of the 90's.

I guess we wouldn't be having this discussion if this were one of those times that you liked Cheers or Roseanne better.

Sorry, you didn't say terrible..."not that good at all." Much better.

FWIW, Cheers and South Park will always rank higher than FP for me. Other shows like Home Improvement, Roseanne, Friends, Scrubs, etc. are ones that I'd rank around FP and like about as much. So sometimes I could say that some are better than the others, for example. But they're all on teh same tier for me, if that helps you understand what I mean.

Right...... It's not like I claimed that FP was better than The Simpsons or anything. Now, THAT would be a troll.

Well, thank God.

I understand. I just have FP probably two tiers lower.

I was about to say how is it possible for someone that is 30 to have never seen an episode of the Fresh Prince, but I'm 30 and have never seen an episode of The Simpsons. I know the intro, know the show exists, know the main characters, but have never watched more than 5 minutes of a single episode.
Fresh Prince, SBTB, Family Matters, Step by Step,
Full House, Boy Meets World, Home Improvement, that's what i watched growing up.
Funny how you can kind of relate FP and SBTB together b/c they both were based at the high school age, and you can relate Family Matters, Step by Step and Full House, BMW together as the family shows.
Out of all of those shows the only two of them had talks of sex and was a bit racist. If there was a bad guy, jerk boss, a crook, robber, criminal, or just a random dumbass, you could bet your life that it was going to be a white person on FP and FM.
With all the kissing going on in SBTB, there was never the slightest hint of any type of sexual activity.
Much different now a days with shows on a frickin family channel that have high school kids with kids that don't live at home anymore.

Let's break down how horrible the opening rap is.....
Solid start
Still pretty damn good
Wait, what? Thanks for the details about the cab.
More cab details? A "rare" cab? Now we're just rhyming, because we have to. frick making sense, or rapping about what this show is actually about.
More bullshite about this fricking cab ride?
At least he finished strong.
quote:
Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-air
Solid start
quote:
In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys, they were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air"
Still pretty damn good
quote:
I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
License plate said "fresh" and had a dice in the mirror
Wait, what? Thanks for the details about the cab.
quote:
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought nah, forget it, yo homes to Bel-air!
More cab details? A "rare" cab? Now we're just rhyming, because we have to. frick making sense, or rapping about what this show is actually about.
quote:
I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby "Yo, homes smell you later!"
More bullshite about this fricking cab ride?
quote:
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-air
At least he finished strong.

So we get comments from you about it being "solid," "pretty damn good," and "strong," you just don't like cabs and that makes the whole thing horrible?
I bet you'd hate the whole song then.
