Absolutely. Adjusted for inflation, only one movie in the last 10 years makes the top 10 (and only 2 in the last 20)

Based on worldwide ticket sales, and removing the incredibly cheap tickets for Chinese movies made in the 70s and 80s, the movie with the highest number of tickets sold in the world in Endgame (430,400,000).

Interestingly enough, Gone With The Wind had two different types of tickets sold:

Standard Admission
Roadshow/Premiere Tickets

The upper end of premiere tickets were $1.10, which is over $25 in today's money (but standard admission tickets were 23 cents, equal to a bit above $5 today). Another issue comparing the movie totals is finding a source that separates the re-releases. GOTW, for example, had 8 re-releases over the years - 1947, 1954, 1961, 1967, 1971, 1974, 1989, and 1998.

2026 has been the best year in movies in a very very long time. I’ve seen more movies at theaters this year than probably any other year.

Yeah 2026 is by far the best year for movies since 2019.

If a movie makes a lot of money, it’s usually shitty.

If a movie doesn’t make a lot of money, it’s usually watchable.

Ticket prices always increase.

We also have dozens of streaming services today.
