Adam Sandler isn’t the star movie studio executives call when looking for an actor who can deliver boffo box office results. The former Saturday Night Live funnyman peaked in 1998 when he sold $240 million worth of tickets at the domestic box office. Since then he’s been trending downward: Last year Sandler’s only movie to hit theaters was Uncut Gems, a critics’ darling that brought in only $51 million; Sandler earned just about $5 million. No matter: He still landed at No. 9 on the annual Forbes ranking of highest-paid actors. The secret? Netflix. The streaming giant paid Sandler $31 million—75% of what he made all year—as part of his four-film, $250 million deal signed in 2014. Netflix users have streamed more than 2 billion hours of the funnyman, which led to a fresh deal signed in January reportedly worth even more than the first.

While nobody got more from Netflix than Sandler in percentage terms, plenty of others benefited. This year’s ten top-earning actors collected a combined $545.5 million, more than a quarter of that paid out by Netflix. The streaming giant, in fact, cut $140.5 million worth of checks to six of the top ten. Dwayne Johnson tops the list for the second year in a row with $87.5 million, collecting $23.5 million for his role as an art-thief-chasing Interpol agent in the upcoming Netflix original film Red Notice. Netflix paid out an additional $85 million to Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck and Vin Diesel.

Dwayne Johnson – $87.5 million

Ryan Reynolds – $71.5 million

Mark Wahlberg – $58 million

Ben Affleck – $55 million

Vin Diesel – $54 million

Akshay Kumar – $48.5 million

Lin-Manuel Miranda – $45.5 million

Will Smith – $44.5 million

Adam Sandler – $41 million

Jackie Chan – $40 million

I have a feeling these lists include money made from producing. The Rock didn't make all his money from acting paychecks. Jackie Chan produces movies in China.

One movie released in 2020. 5 movies released in 2019. He's still a major part of the Hong Kong cinema machine.

They must’ve lost their arse on triple frontier. That movie was supposed to legitimize their original movie content

Jackie Chan's The Foreigner from 2019 is a great movie.

All of the Jackie Chan badassedness at an older age, and none of the jokester bs.

According to Netflix, Triple Frontier is their 7th most watched movie ever with 64 million streams in the first four weeks.

Vin Diesel won the fricking lottery when one corny car movie turned into an empire. I have no idea what else he's done except get sniped in Saving Private Ryan

I gotta believe this too. Sandler makes a good deal of money from Netflix on the movies he's making and producing. This probably included The Wrong Missy. Ben Affleck also gets credit for producing/directing movies he's not in.

Has the Rock made a movie that a person wants to re-watch over and over? Like a Gladiator, Die Hard, Winter Soldier.

Only thing i can think is fast and furious

Dude making bank off forgettable stuff
