1. You clearly have no sense of humor nor the ability to detect purposeful hyperbole.

quote:

You just said that you didn't say it was the end all, be all of films, but here we are.

2. I would say the same thing if Citizen Kane or The Wizard of Oz were rotating onto Netflix. There are just some films that are required viewing if you claim to love movies.

But you said this...

quote:

True enough, but if you claim to love the movies and have never seen The Godfather, then I'm afraid I can't take your opinion as seriously as someone who has seen The Godfather.

And that's not elitism talking. It's the truth.

Which means it isn't a joke. Or is this a joke too? If you want to be elitist, just own it, people can still call you out on it.

Okay, Freauxzen, let's play a game called: "Pick out the joke."

quote:

It's called being a man. If you are an American and you were born into this world a male, you aren't officially a man until you have seen The Godfather.

or.....

quote:

True enough, but if you claim to love the movies and have never seen The Godfather, then I'm afraid I can't take your opinion as seriously as someone who has seen The Godfather.

If you need help, I'll allow you to phone a friend or you can just ask me for a 50/50.

All I know is that you are on the wrong side of history. And that's what matters in the end.

If you are trying to tell us that you have never seen The Godfather, then that's fine. I'm judging you for it and so is everyone else. So sit down in a few days and allow your simple mind to absorb the greatness that is The Godfather, and then come back to us an educated man.

Is The Godfather epic the same as The Godfather Saga?

Wrong side of history on what?

Again, you aren't really helping yourself with the "joke" then the constant condescending comments, the insults, or the assumptions. Nor, seemingly, do you get the point. Someone who hasn't seen it can still know film, and enjoy film, and discuss film. I'm just not arrogant enough, like you seem to be, to believe The Godfather is some kind of passage into film enlightenment. Just because Academia says it is so, doesn't make it so.

What the hell does a “near flawless movie” even mean?

a movie that is almost without a flaw of any kind ... meaning, there may be a flaw or flaws, but relative to other movies, even great movies, on average, this one has considerably, even statistically noteworthy, fewer flaws ...

if you haven't seen it, most will have the same thought about listening to your critique on most movies:

I’ve never seen The Godfather Part 3 from beginning to end. I would just rather imagine a different movie with Tom Hagen and Michael Corleone finally coming to a head. They should have given Robert Duvall the money that he asked for.

I didn't bother reading any of your post. I just saw your reply. So whatever you said, you're wrong.

Man, the board was like this when it first started but we learned to police ourselves a bit, then we had a good long period of real understanding and conversation. Let's not go back to the snobbery.

We should be supportive of everyone's views on film, particularly to have good well rounded discussions, not dismissive for x, y, or z reason.

Not bad per say. Just an unnecessary third act to two perfect movies

My memory is sometimes a little hazy, so please forgive me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't it YOU who told me that Batman v. Superman was an objectively bad film, and that any defense of it was outright fanboyism?
