I originally hadn't considered watching it because of all the initial backlash, but a friend convinced me to give it a shot.
I actually really liked it. Thought the acting was great, loved the music, locations, and scenery. Granted, I haven't read any of the source material, but I thought the story was great too, and had some interesting twists.
Of course it's not as (financially) polished and the original films, nor would I expect it to be--it's an Amazon series; however, I think it holds it own well and am looking forward to starting season two maybe tonight or next week.

I bailed after 6 episodes. It's just too fricking stupid.

If you think about it as fan fiction, it’s not bad. It’s not real lore

I tried watching it as a completely seperate idea from the Tolkien universe. It didn’t work. It was still awful.

Agreed.
My biggest complaint at this point is Galadriel is a terrible actress. Her accent is brutal.

To be fair lets adjust for inflation...
2001 to 2023 that 94 mil would be 2.893 Billion

let me know what other shows you enjoy so I will make sure I never watch them.
Season one was one of the worst seasons ever for a tv show.

Someone said it best.
The people defending this godawful dumpster fire of a show are the kinds who'll argue water isn't wet, fire isn't hot, and Les Miles was an offensive mastermind.

I'm not defending the show because it's not great or the budget because they for sure lost money (so far) no matter what Amazon says but it'll be over a billion if it goes 5 season, not 1-2 billion per season like people like saying. But they also also paid 250 million just for the rights to them. But that would apply for any future products too.

imagine spending a billion dollars and losing hundreds of millions all while putting out this crap of a show. It's one of the most embarrassing things ever in hollywood. It's truly mind-blowing
This had so much potential.

Trying to think of my top ten favorite moments of Season 1...
1. Harfoots sing a song about leaving nobody behind... next scene is the Harfoots throwing the family with the dad that just broke his leg to the very back of the caravan to leave them behind.
2. Sauron tells Galadriel that he has no connection to the Southlands. Galadriel sees a brooch she's never scene before and proclaims Sauron the King of the Southlands.
3. The Numenoreans make a big deal about not wanting elves on the island... proceed to lock up Galadriel and keep her trapped on the island.
4. Galadriel desperately needs a boat and army to get to the Southlands... starts yelling and threatening Numenors' queen.
5. Queen of Numenor loses her sight from the Volcano, and says she doesn't want her people to see that she's blind... next scene is her walking out to talk to her people with a blindfold covering her eyes.
6. Southlanders desperately need to escape the orcs and mention there's an encampment of Numenoreans near the mountains... proceed to fleet further into the Southlands instead of heading to the Numenorean camp.
7. On the boat, Galadriel shows to Elindil how elves can see for miles and miles away, amd how keen their sight is. Next scene is the elven watch tower where they somehow haven't noticed orcs digging hundreds of miles of ditches right underneath their noses.
8. Elves have to leave Middle Earth because their power is waning. Gil-galad hears about a new metal the dwarves have found, and proclaims that they can use this ore they know absolutely nothing about to restore their power.
9. Volcano erupts and literally nobody dies.
10. I AM GOOD
So many other great moments in storytelling that I'm missing... it's hard to keep track of all of them in this masterpiece.
