I am answering your questions because I happen to be on the forum right now. I'm not sure the rapidity of my responses have anything to do with it "effecting" me.

lol double response to the same response. I have really gotten to you.

ah, the old "let's blame my device because I can't get my point across like an adult" excuse. roger that. I've answered your questions. You disagree.

I suggest you reread your responses if you want to argue the who is the adult point.

RPO seems like an extremely weak movie to start this type of thread over. It's no TLJ.

Didn't the opening narration explain the state of the world?

Wasn't showing the physical center of the Oasis is still a craphole city with debris, trash, slums, slave pens a decent way of showing if this is Columbus wtf happened to the rest of America?

It didn't go anywhere near the level of the book, but it did not need to go that far for the movie. Parts about needing guards to cross between cities and how much of the world only exists in the Oasis now was left out. All the explaining he did when he was moving out to Columbus and the control of the ISPs and such. He went into a lot of detail about the state of the world in the book.

I guess it just seems nitpicky.

I read the book it was fun but sloppily written in parts.

The movie was fun but sloppily paced in parts.

Both got the point across to me that the real world sucked in those settings. And I feel like I'm about as average Joe as can be.

If that is really important to you, then so be it. Again, it's the type of response that I would expect from a 12 year old, so it's not that surprising.

None of that detail is needed in this movie.

That would be like shutting off electricity two days of the week in this society because people need to go outside.

it was a decent discussion about a generic, entertaining movie until you started bitching about details that would add nothing to the quality of the movie.

Yeah, it's pretty nitpicky. Just discussion.

I'm not very average when it comes to this tech, I'm a tech nerd that messes around with a lot of VR stuff that has potential to be similar to the Oasis.

The first sentence you quoted said as much....

A better plot device than going backwards would make the movie better.

Going more into what they were doing with the Halliday avatar would be very interesting and could add quality to the movie.

The stupid tuesday/thursday comment not existing would make the ending better.

That's neither here nor there though.

The average Joe is in relation to consuming the media.

Joe averages shouldn't need their hand held to this degree you're trying to hold a two hour movie to.

That would be like asking what about the other Ewok villages on Endor after Return of the Jedi.

And we all know what happened there...

You get enough in this movie to see that the Oasis is people's jobs, their shopping service, their education, it's the entire internet.

Could you imagine someone taking control of the internet right now and turning it off for 2 random days of the week?

It's a bad message. It's not learn self control over addiction. It's do gooders should be able to force you off things for your own good because reality is real.

They get weekends again and push a hoop down the street with a stick.

It seems like your hang up is really this one line.

Yes there's issues with this solution in the movie but it's not this insurmountable they nuked the world scenario.

It's more an ethical conundrum attached to a happy ending. And easily something that another story can be made on.

See I like the happy ending message at the end of the book better. Wade realizes the importance of being in the real world and how much better it is to be outside the Oasis with Artemis. He isn't forcing that message on the world.

His original plan in the book for the money, even if it may be a joke, is to build a space ship and leave the trash heap of Earth behind. Arty just wants to feed everyone.

why didnt they just limit everyone's avatar to 5 days each week in the OASIS instead? that way the whole world isn't turned off at the same time, people take breaks when they want.

The race part wasn't done by someone who plays racing games. The first race some troll would of tried to gone backwards to wreck everyone.

But still you’d think that at least one person in the very first race would think to themselves “Hey, since everyone’s going forward, why don’t I try going backwards just to see what happens?” A 5 year old could figure that out, nevertheless a corporation that has hundreds to do their bidding. Spielberg should not have directed this.

first thing my brother and i did after buying a new game was to try & find ways to 'break' out of the normal play format.

i'd say more than 50% of my time in any game is devoted to fricking around trying to find a way to break it.

i was thrilled to figure out i could rocket-jump onto the skull backboard in quake3.
