It's all speculation. Only the studio knows how much they're spending on budgets and marketing (ancillary revenues too). Supergirl may not make much, but I'm expecting Clayface, Batman 2, and Man of Tomorrow to be big hits for the DCU.

400 mil would be a very good number for this movie
do you mean good as in, that is the best it can hope for?

Or do you think that will be enough to turn a profit?

I am genuinely asking

I am definitely going to watch it, but I have a hard time gauging real interest in this film. . .similar to Mandalorian and Grogu. There seems to be a ton of acknowledgement. . .but not much excitement or positive engagement.

I think Milly is a really good actress and she will nail this role. I think she is better suited for this role than Corenswet was for Superman, and he was just fine.

I think Mamoa will do his best Mamoa, since the last time he did Mamoa.

Ancillary revenues generally don't count towards P/L on movies. . .

They license the IP to toymakers, generally. Some of the contracts include royalties I would assume.

Lucasfilms was a rare bird, back before Disney bought them. Their deal with Kenner was almost a 50/50 split iirc.

It is very important to view DC Universe very differently than Star Wars. Star Wars was a toy-driven IP for 30 years. DC is not. I would wager that the only hot toy property all accounted for with DC is Batman

None of the numbers he gave you are correct.

The Batman opened at 134 and finished at 772

Superman opened at 125 and finished at 618

This movie will be very lucky to hit 300 total

You misread

He said "came on the board" as in projections

So Supes was projected initially to hit 85, it hit 125

Based on a transitive property, just for shits and giggles, that has Supergirl opening at 81 million

finished at 618
That is the number I used 65% o4 618 is 402

There are several different types of ancillaries....things like PVOD, Licensing fees, streaming, merchandise, DVD, etc. For example, I'm currently watching TV and just saw a Hertz commercial using Supergirl. Studios use these profits to pay for marketing and other costs. Marketing is not a part of the budget, its a completely separate expense.

Superman was tracking at 112 prior to its opening

The Batman was tracking at 120 prior to release

I don't know what the budget is, so no clue what it needs to break even. But I think they'd be happy with 400 mil. The international market for this film is a big concern. 400 mil means it did pretty decent, internationally.

40% is a best case scenario but it’ll probably do closer to 30%

they are saying initial projections were 85.

Meaning before presales. Likely a month out.

I’m going by the week prior, actually the Wednesday prior. Different publications state different numbers for example one had it at 90 the next at 135. For Batman some had it up to 170 on March 2, the Wednesday prior to release.

Right, most of those licensing fees are accounted for, aside from pvod. But if we are going there, then nothing matters

You would need to wait until literally the end of time to calculate.

I dont have that kind of time

And you also need to subtract the Theaters take from the Box Office, if we want to be yhat nit picky.

He’s used this made up equation for awhile now but it never seems to bear any fruit. It never saves a movie or IP the way he claims it can and he can’t give any solid numbers to support the claim. It’s a cope tactic and it’s never proven true.

No doubt. Theaters get anywhere from 40-50% of receipts. All I'm saying is these things are far more complicated than what social media will have you believe. Studios are also crooks that get away with murder. Research Hollywood accounting practices.

Just going with known numbers and metrics.

Just for fun

I have to disagree with you here. Many other blonde girls could’ve played this character, it is not easy to find someone who LOOKS like Superman and DC absolutely nailed it both of the last times out
