As someone who grew up on 80s horror, I've always enjoyed some good practical creature effects. This is just based on looks not character. Let's try to keep cgi to a minimum. Here's some of my favorites.

Angel of Death from Hellboy 2

Xenomorph Queen from Aliens

Medusa from Clash of the Titans

girl cenobite from Hellraiser

I was fascinated by Darkness in the movie legend. Not bad for an80’s makeup job.

That Medusa scene in Clash is epic.

I just watched that movie 2 nights ago and it still kicks arse.

And obviously the GOAT

You mean the devil? I forgot that one, that's actually my favorite make up job ever. When I think of Darkness, I think Charlie Murphy.

That might be it. H.R. Giger's drawings really fascinated me as a youngster.

I'd like to visit his museum and bar in Switzerland sometime: LINK

Anything by Stan Winston is the answer. Predator being at the top of the list. When he and Cameron got together for design, it was magical. They produced the Alien Queen, Predator and the Terminator.

Thats basically the Lost of the most iconic creature characters since King Kong.

The transformation FX from "An American Werewolf in London" was pretty damned good, and the werewolf itself was a decent take.

Not to derail the thread, but if you like Harry you may enjoy seeing this. I enjoy looking through this board called RPF which is Replica Prop Forum. I don;t make anything but I like looking at all the stuff. Someone there had made a Harry sculpt...

Since the Predator was already posted I'll go ahead and say LOTR had some great looking creatures:
