The Epstein stuff ripped the lid off of that, though they’ve scrambled to put the lid back on by killing him and by the FBI destroying all of the evidence on the island and his apartment.

We had to change our sex cult password and were forced to do away with incognito mask night because of this movie.
Wonder if they’ve implemented Multifactor Authentication yet

Nicole Kidman’s drunk/stoned acting was horrible

She was not ever really a great actress in the first place.
This movie has been one that I've gone back to and appreciated more on the rewatch. Especially as I got older and could relate to some of the themes about their marriage more.
It's a creepy as frick movie for sure.

2 pages of a Eyes Wide Open thread and not one picture of Nicole.
Must be 2020

This is one movie I definitely wouldn't mind seeing an over-analyzation of.

I missed that.
I know some dont think she is hot but she does it for me. The opening scene of that movie with her dropping her dress and showing her long legs was spot on.
She was also hot as hell in that HBO series with Reece Witherspoon. Always loved her

Her multiple Oscars, Emmys, and other acting awards says other wise.

she was so hot in “to die for” I wanted to kill Matt Dillon myself

Really a 2-pronged set of issues with this film.
1st off, the general public was a bit repulsed by a lot of the plot's suggestions, it was all too weird and disturbing for a "mainstream hit" (and yet starred Cruise and Kidman, who were THE star couple then).
2nd, I think it hit too close to home for a lot of powerful people, and suspect there was a coordinated effort to discredit it.
Solid analysis. I’ll bet if it was released fresh these days it would be a much bigger hit because the general public has seen much more of this stuff, e.g., Epstein, Clinton’s, etc.

he died 666 days before 2001
the movie is likely highly edited and chopped
ultimately it has a nice hypnotic feel to it
clearly pedophilia is a major theme with the stuffed teddy bears and sex trafficking themes
there's much to be examined on the mind and fantasy and its influence on our physical reality

What is the movie really about
Cruise's character is a director. The prostitutes are actresses. The costume shop is costuming and set designers (seems to be where the trafficking of children comes into play in the movie).
His wife is the industry. In bed with the military ("fantasy" she tells him), feeding off insecurity, and ultimately self-absorbed (see the narcissistic gaze at the end).
The rich people are the producers that fund his pictures. They are also cultists who worship Satan (see the San Francisco brand of Satanism) for power, wealth, and ultimately the production of the anti-Christ which is the reason for the orgy.
Ultimately, the cultists are just weak, ineffectual men, who lack self control and have devolved into degenerousy and a callow disregard for humanity to the point that almost killing a "prostitute" is just an incident to be taken care of and then never talked about.
Main character stumbles upon this knowledge and is threatened to keep his mouth shut, the implication being that the cultists will destroy him and his family.
Kubrick spends his entire career outing this Saturnalia cult and dies 6 days after showing his final edits to Warner Brothers executives.
Spielberg gets to make A.I. shortly thereafter.
Film is a lot clearer post-Harvey Weinstein/Jeffery Epstein era.
