Excellent Halloween scary movie for kids. I have seen (and grew up on) most of the Jim Varney movies but had never seen this one. Thanks CAD for the plex. I highly recommend this as a scary movie for the whole family.

Probably the second best Ernest movie. Only behind Goes to Camp and probably tied with Saves Christmas.

Jim Varney was such a huge talent and Apparenlty and incrdibly sweet guy in real life.

This is correct.

Camp was one of my favorites growing up. But Scared Stupid was really good. I didn't like Christmas or any of the other Ernest movies actually (I think Christmas and the Jail one were the only others I saw), but those two are both great.

I'd love to watch Scared Stupid with my son, but he's only four so having not seen it in forever, I don't remember if it would be a little bit too intense/scary for him. I may have to give it a watch soon and see if I can remember what all is in it.

Goes to Jail is also very good. I don't like Saves Christmas as much. Ernest seems like a bit player, as the movie is actually about the little girl and Santa.

Watched this an infinite number of times as a kid.

Hadn’t seen it, or really even thought of it, for over 20 years. I scrolled by it on HBO Go during my Halloween movie month four years ago and decided to watch. I was stunned at all the memories that came flooding back.

Ernest was such a treasure. I hope parents pass that on to their kids.

Quick look and I see:

Hulu: Camp
Amazon free: Army, School, Rides again, Africa
Amazon rent: Jail, Scared stupid, Christmas
Disney: Christmas
Paramount: None

I don't have Netflix, so don't trust the search feature results

Finally got my 7 year old to watch it this weekend. Favorite lines were of course “miak” and “how about a bumper sandwich, booger lips”

My 4 year old said he had a bad dream about the troll the night we watched it last week. He also gets really pissed when I tell him about the troll living upstairs

I prefer Family Album. Humor is tighter in skit version.

Yeah, that's my main concern. We've let him watch things that are beyond his age at times, but sometimes he is scared by the silliest shite so I am hesitant to watch it.

See, I can't do that to mine because he'd prolly believe that shite and be legit terrified.

It's weird, sometimes he likes "scary" stuff and sometimes he straight up doesn't. When we go to Lowe's, he freaks the frick out walking past those gigantic skeletons. Scares the shite out of him. It's like he likes being scared by stuff, but then doesn't like actually being scared.
