SPOILERS
So again, I really enjoyed the movie and was really fine with it, but IF they wanted to try to reach a wider audience, the opening sequences could have been trimmed some up some IMO and you can still get the "has to earn it " kind of feeling from the later death / reboots. Its kind of just a creative decision and probably wouldn't have mattered if it had done well in theaters or had better marketing where more people had faith in that part (or maybe my friends just don't have patience with movies).
I've just been trying my hand at writing and been listening to some podcasts and stuff focusing on story structure - so I think it works well for those of us who like time loops and this kind of stuff - but you probably end up losing some of the possible broader audience in that regard. Though that could maybe contribute to why what I think is a great movie didn't garner wider appeal.
Speaking of - did yall like that ARQ movie on Netflix? I thought that one was a good low budget time loop movie.

I rewatched today. He dies multiple times simply when he’s trying to survive. You maybe see only 3 or 4 on screen. It never plays all the way through except twice. Then he dies multiple times after meeting Rita and in training. Then he has the vision and they start focusing on getting off the beach. This is already at the halfway point of the movie.

I get where you’re coming from in terms of maybe being less repetitive. I’m no writer so maybe I just don’t have the knowledge to pull it off, but I just can’t see it being done much differently without losing some depth. In the end, it’s war of the worlds meets Groundhog Day. And I think it was done very well.

Ya I do too, i'll throw it on next time I see it on tv to check out my theory.

I think this might be the only Tom Cruise movie I've seen since MI:II
You can hate the guy and I do but he doesn't make a lot of bad movies.

More like thousands, but I agree completely!

For whatever reason I see the title "Edge of Tomorrow" and the Dennis Quaid environmental polar vortex movie comes to mind.
For me, it’s SBTB:TCY
But yeah, the Cruise flick is great.

Why would you hate him?

It’s perfect at what it wants to be.
Great movie.
Great movie.

The book is great also and is a short, quick read.

Admittedly, hate was strong there but the guy is the epitome of Hollywood weird and the whole scientology thing turns me off and creeps me out. Its also hard for me to get the whole Oprah scene with him jumping up and down on her couch like a 12 year old school girl proclaiming his love for Katie Holmes out of my head. Cringe worthy. Can you picture Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon doing this?

I didn't know it was off of a book (should have guessed, seems like all the good sci fi movies are these days) - I'll have to check it out.

I liked everything but the very end. Good movie.

To be sure, he's a train wreck with the Scientology nonsense, and the movies of his that I've seen have been good. It just shakes out that most of his films aren't must-see for me.

I thought Edge of Tomorrow was great. Reading some of the critiques- I don't think editing it to show less reboots would have helped, it might have made it worse.
I think the biggest thing was twofold: it came out about the same time as Oblivion, another Cruise SF movie, and like others have commented, I think that confused people. I saw neither in the theater, and think I read the reviews on Edge of Tomorrow (it being good), and ended up seeing Oblivion first. Oblivion was good too, but in a different way, and if you are thinking action it's a letdown.
I think the other problem, which I believe has been touched on, is that Cruise gets a little hate nowadays.

Great movie for testing and showcasing your subwoofer system.
Opening clip is quite hot and will rattle your house with any decent sub.
I love how it touches most of the low hertz bands.
Also fun to watch it with bass cranked most of the movie. Makes it even better to rewatch at home.

Inception is another good one for that.

watched this again for about the fifth or sixth time last night, it’s still great and quite funny at times. I knew it was coming but spit up my beer when he rolls under the truck the first time LOL
one minor thing I’ve always wondered is why, once they knew where the omega was, they didn’t just bomb the building? Why travel all that way, get all of J squad killed, and go hand to hand combat? Or send a couple cruise missles?

Great movie. Cruise was great.
How do you not Mention Emily Blunt?
Were you just fixtated on Cruise the whole film?
She is a baddie.
I keep getting more drawn to her, every re watch.
There was suppose to be a sequel but it got axed.

Pretty good flick, but one of those movies I don't have much desire to rewatch.
