that's when I realized that the story is a metaphor for how we're ignoring and not taking drastic action to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change. Do y'all still want to watch it?

Yes. In no way would that make me not want to watch what could possibly be a fantastic movie.

"This movie isnt going to mention anything about climate change but im not going to watch it because science is stupid."

Cate Blanchett is hot as hell in general, and in most anything she does.

She even made this ugly arse bitch look hot:

The movie just screened

DON'T LOOK UP is a present-day DR. STRANGELOVE — a funny, sickening, brilliant reminder of just how fricked the world will be if we don't quickly get our shite together. Great perfs by one of the best casts ever assembled. Hilarious song from Ariana/Cudi. Stay thru the end credits!

@ScottDMenzel

Don’t Look Up is a brilliant political satire and Adam McKay at his best. Easily the funniest film I’ve seen all year. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, & Mark Rylance are all freaking great in this. Oh, and Ariana Grande’s Just Look Up needs to be nominated. #DontLookUp

quote:

Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio walking into the Oscar race. Leo superbly playing against type that is landing him that nom. Voters will lap this film up. It's Adam McKay doing what he does best, knocking satire out of the park #DontLookUp

@wkirkley

Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up was both devastating and gut-wrenchingly hilarious. The Big Short for climate change in the most brilliant way.

quote:

@akstanwyck

Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up is a dead serious and hilarious end of the world comedy, a Melancholia meets Dr. Strangelove —with a top ensemble in fine form, led by DiCaprio, Lawrence, and Streep. DiCaprio had been seeking a film to address the climate crisis in just the right way.

We’ve seen how the U.S. reacts to an impending apocalyptic disaster in other movies, but how would we REALLY react? #DontLookUp is a hilarious & horrifying satire about how painstakingly hard it is for us to actually save the day. It’s what you expect, but it’s super entertaining

The whole cast is fun to watch, but Leo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep were stand-outs, and I LOVED everything Cate Blanchett gives us in this movie. Watching her and Tyler Perry as daytime talk show hosts who refuse to entertain negative stories was a highlight for me
#DontLookUp

DON’T LOOK UP has some sharp capitalist and political satire if inconsistent humor. Leonardo DiCaprio is incredibly great here and gets an explosive Peter Finch in Network moment. Streep, Lawrence and Rylance are all good. Ariana Grande’s song is fricking hilarious. #DontLookUp

It's no Dr. Strangelove.

Spoilers, I guess:

It's not funny at all.

"Madam President" is supposed to be Hillary I guess because there's a picture of Streep hugging Bill Clinton on her desk in the Oval office.

The funniest part in the movie is a no dialogue shot...a framed picture of Madam President with a fat Steven Seagal on her desk.

Jennifer Lawrence looks like a $50 streetwalker.

Leonardo is morphing into Orson Welles...his head just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

The biggest problem with this film...it's just frankly BORING.

The satire is weak and forced and doesn't work.

It tries to be a little of "God Bless America" satire on our obsession with pop culture, politics, mainstream media nonsense, Corporate greed and social media but it's not remotely as good.

But people comparing it to Dr. Strangelove are insane.

How many dicks did Adam McKay have to suck for these to even be mentioned in the same sentence?

Both are about the governments response to a world ending event, pretty easy connection to be made there.

ETA I’m not arguing they are on the same level, but the comps are naturally going to come from that

Just finished it. Jonah Hill crushes it in this. Early 2010 type Jonah Hill performance. Worth watching for that alone but i found it one of the funnier big budget movies I’ve seen come out in a while.

Certainly has its leans that people will hate, but I felt the satire on the whole was more pointed to the entire political machine and our pop culture/meme culture. Streep is basically doing a huge satire/criticism for Hiliary Clinton the first half of the movie and trump the second half, so everyone will atleast be equally offended there

Mark Rylance, Cate Blanche (just jaw dropping smoke in this ), Leo, and the CSI detective guy are the bright spots of the movie.

The free snacks running bit was great

I gave it an hour.it still had an hour 22 left

How many times can you make the same point?

People only care about themselves.

Skeptics will always be skeptical.

People are more interested in pop culture than real world shite.

I didn't get the point of this movie. Maybe I'm dumb? Reviews before the movie kept claiming it was a laugh out loud comedy...it was pretty depressing honestly.

Frustration over incompetence is British humor.

But this movie doesn't even pull that subtle sarcasm off.

Dr. Strangelove dealt with incompetence and the failures of our leaders but this movie misses the point. By making the powers that be and media totally obtuse, its just tedious and not funny...watching as two people try to warn the Idiocracy world.

Comparing this movie to Dr. Strangelove is like comparing Sharknado to JAWS. But I'm sure the "critics" will go full steam with that approach.

This was just a total crap movie with a big budget, big cast and very few clever or provocative moments. I would cut them some slack because it's really tough to pull off a good black comedy and I'm glad some are willing to shoot for that narrow target, but this was just awful.

It was a thinly veiled attempt to make fun of conservatives against vaccine mandates, Brett Kavanaugh, nepotism in the Trump family, etc

I was sort of shocked they lampooned tech billionaires collecting data on everyone and thinking they are saviors like they did. They wrapped up Zuck, Elon, and Gates all into one person.
