I'm almost 100% sure that either Black Panther or A Star is Born will garner the most nominations at this year's Academy Awards. Judging from what I've been reading and watching from the usual Hollywood insiders, Black Panther isn't just going to get nominated for Best Picture, there's also a strong chance that it wins.

It would surpass Crash as the worst winner of all time.

It was a mediocre CGI fest, but at least more than three people have actually seen Black Panther.

I think Moonlight got nominated and rigged to win after some executive did an extensive google search for keywords involving gay, black, and movie. And it probably wasn't even in the first 2 pages of results.

I would be surprised if it wins. I fully expect it to be nominated though.

Spike Lee has to be pissed. He made a good movie in BlackKlansman that is receiving nominations, and it has been completely overshadowed.

Same thing for The Green Room and If Beale Street Could Talk. Those are much better movies than BP.

What categories do you honestly think Panthers gonna be nominated in?

BP, song, I guess they'll throw the effects bone to it even though it's effects were subpar.

The movies that vie for most nominations usually compete in director, screenplay, acting nods, editing, BP is not gonna get any of those nominations.

Oscar ratings have been going down. Politics is certainly part of it, but the major nominations going to movies that the general public doesn't care about is also an issue.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, the academy is very "woke".

Are you suggesting that Black Panther is being recognized only for it's black ensemble at the expense of BlackKlansman -- a movie (directed by and starring blacks) designed to show an ugliness in its white character depictions?

If so, maybe blackness isn't the motivation. Maybe terrible taste in movies wins the day.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Black Panther will not win Best Picture.

So what? The general public isn’t interested in seeing well crafted movies for the most part.
